Back at UFC 192 Tyron Woodley and former UFC welterweight champion Johny Hendricks were set to compete in what many expected to be a #1 contender fight at welterweight. Unfortunately a weight-cutting mishap saw Hendricks rushed to the emergency room and unable to fight. In the wake of Hendricks hospitalization, UFC President Dana White stated that Tyron Woodley was now the #1 contender, and Johny Hendricks was considered a middleweight.

While Conor McGregor’s movement and fluidity continues to leave his opponents confused in the Octagon, UFC lightweight Eddie Alvarez believes there is a simple way to defeat the UFC featherweight champion. McGregor is currently gearing up for his March 5th fight against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 for the UFC lightweight championship, however ahead of that many are wondering if McGregor’s new beefed up physique will be detrimental to his speed at 155 pounds.

The UFC had gone quite a few weeks without releasing any more fighters, however that changed this morning. Fan favorite fighter Scott Jorgensen, MMA veteran George Roop, and former Road FC lightweight champion Yui Chul Nam all found themselves cut from the UFC according to UFCFightersiNFO on Twitter.

The last time we saw Alexander Gustafsson in the Octagon was back in October of last year when he fell short of becoming a UFC champion by one judges scorecard. Gustafsson fought a hard five-round fight with UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier that resulted in a split-decision in favor of Cormier. Prior to the fight that he was on the verge of fulfilling his dreams, Gustafsson had to deal with the most devastating loss of his career when Anthony Johnson handed him his first TKO loss in just over two minutes of the very first round.

Is Urijah Faber’s career coming to an end soon? Faber’s Team Alpha Male teammate Cody Garbrandt seems to think that it might be the case, with “The California Kid” taking a bow at the top of the game. Garbrandt spoke on the Submission Radio show about his mentor’s future in fighting (transcribed by Bloody Elbow): “If Urijah would be the champion I think he would beat Cruz in the next fight. We talked about it before, he’ll go out as champion, retire,” Garbradt said. “Urijah has done so much for the sport and been a world champion, he’s been the Featherweight king at the WEC – and people seem to forget Urijah ruled that era for a very long time, fought some of the best fighters. What else would he have to prove? You win the title and go out, storybook ending. Boom, done.”

It took Thompson less than one round to put the former champion out with a highlight reel combination of strikes that surely had the entire welterweight division on watch. “Wonderboy” spoke on the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show recently about his game.

Former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St. Pierre has never confirmed that he will in fact return to the UFC, however that hasn’t stopped everyone from speculating as to whether or not ‘Rush’ will return. In addition to his coach stating that GSP could be preparing to ‘make a splash’ soon, Rory MacDonald slipped up and said that GSP would be returning for super fights, not for the UFC welterweight championship.
