A lightweight bout between Alan Patrick (13-1 MMA) and Damien Brown (15-9 MMA) kicked off tonight’s UFC Fight Night 85 event in Brisbane, Australia. Round one begins and Patrick immediately shoots in and score a takedown. He moves to half-guard and starts raining down punches from the top. Brown scrambles to his feet but Patrick locks in a guillotine choke which forces Damien back to the down to the canvas. Patrick moves back to half-guard and begins firing off some big elbows. Brown again scrambles to his feet and after a failed guillotine choke from Alan, he winds up in top position. A couple of good shots from Damien and Patrick is back up. Brown takes him down again but Patrick is able to scramble and get back to his feet quickly. Good left hand from Brown but Patrick score a trip and gets him back down. Kimura attempt from Brown but Patrick escapes. Good shots from the top by Patrick. The bell sounds to end round one.

Earlier this week reports surfaced that the UFC was actively looking to book Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor II for UFC 200 in July. According to sources, both sides had verbally agreed to a welterweight bout on the July 9th card, however nothing was made official. With that being said, Diaz’s strength and conditioning coach Jose Garcia posted on Facebook in regards to the bout, leading many to believe that the bout will be made official soon.

UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos was initially slated to fight Conor McGregor for the lightweight championship at UFC 196 on March 5th, however a broken foot forced dos Anjos out of the fight. Ultimately Nate Diaz stepped in as a late replacement for dos Anjos with less than two weeks until fight night. Diaz then proceeded to submit McGregor in the 2nd round of their welterweight scrap.

This Sunday, former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen returns to the mats when he grapples with top ranked UFC middleweight Michael Bisping at UR Fight. The event is more likely than not, unlike anything fight fans have ever witnessed. Also on the card, Roy Jones Jr. will box a fan, Kurt Angle will have a wrestling match with Rey Mysterio Jr., and at one point Dan Severn and Tank Abbott were even slated to have an MMA fight.

Leading up to UFC 196, Conor McGregor revealed that while he wasn’t crazy about the idea of doing movies, he is crazy about money, and may occasionally dabble in the film industry. It was revealed that McGregor would be making a guest appearance in an upcoming installment of ‘XXX’ with Vin Diesel. However, ahead of UFC 200 McGregor has reportedly cancelled the planned appearance according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto

Donald Cerrone had a successful debut at Welterweight about a month ago and hopes to continue at UFC Fight Night 89. The UFC should be announcing this fight very soon. It looks like Cerrone will be facing Canadian star Patrick Cote in Ottawa Ontario, Canada June 18. The pair will co-headline the event and is expected to air on FoxSports 1 and stream on UFC Fight Pass.

AND NEW UFC Bantamweight champion Miesha Tate had a front row seat to the trash talk between McGregor and Diaz. Tate felt that Nate took all of the trash talking in stride and paid it no mind.

Initially after the fight between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz at UFC 196, there was not a lot of talk about an immediate rematch. Diaz was able to withstand an early onslaught from McGregor in the opening round and turned things around in the second. Diaz hurt McGregor with punches and was able to utilize his black belt-level jiu-jitsu game to secure a rear-naked choke on McGregor to hand him his first loss in the UFC. With reports floating around that the UFC is looking to book an immediate rematch between the two stars at UFC 200, you have to wonder if this is simply a demand that McGregor has come up with.

Mark Hunt turned down $400,000 to quit the UFC and move on to the next stage of his life. Dana White recently told the Daily Telegraph he offered Hunt $400,000 saying: “We thought that was enough money to make him go away”.
