Report: Ariel Helwani reveals that things previously 'got physical' with the UFC

Big news is surrounding MMA journalist Ariel Helwani after he revealed on Saturday that he was “banned for life” from the UFC. Helwani spoke on “The MMA Hour” on Monday to address the fiasco and his meeting with UFC President Dana White where he was kicked out of the UFC 199 event and banned as a journalist after breaking the news of Brock Lesnar’s return to the Octagon ahead of the organization’s announcement.

Former UFC champion Brock Lesnar was a guest on ESPN’s SportsCenter this morning where he announced that he would be returning to the octagon at UFC 200 on July 9 to fight Mark Hunt. Lesnar, who has not fought since his 2011 loss to Alistair Overeem, has opened as a +120 underdog against Hunt, this according to @MMAOddsAlert:

Shocking news hit the world of MMA on Saturday night when MMA journalist Ariel Helwani tweeted that he was kicked out of UFC 199 just before the main event between Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping. Bisping went on to shake up the middleweight division, winning the UFC title after knocking Rockhold out in the first round and Helwani was not able to cover the fight as a journalist.

Earlier today on ESPN’s SportsCenter former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar announced that he would be returning to the octagon to fight Mark Hunt at UFC 200 on July 9 in Las Vegas. Lesnar has not competed in mixed martial arts since his 2011 TKO loss to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141. The former champions last win came via submission against Shane Carwin at UFC 116 in 2010.

During last night’s UFC 199 pay-per-view broadcast UFC officials announced that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would be returning to fight at July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event in Las Vegas. An opponent for “The Beast” was not given at the time, but we now know that an announcement will be made Monday June 6 on ESPN.

Dominick Cruz scored an impressive unanimous decision victory over bitter rival Urijah Faber in the co-main event of yesterday’s UFC 199 fight card in Los Angeles. Cruz was able to utilize his excellent footwork and head movement to frustrate Faber for the majority of the fight. “The Dominator” dropped Urijah in the bouts second-round but was unable to finish “The California Kid”.
