It’s now been a year since the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency began testing UFC fighters. Since then, the MMA community has seen numerous fighters popped for both in competition, and out-of-competition, anti-doping violations. Earlier this month a list was released of the fighters most tested by USADA in the first year of the program. Tied for first were UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, and former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm.

Less than one week ago, Evangelista Santos was on the wrong end of a vicious flying knee KO from Michael Page at Bellator 158. The knee which knocked Santos out, also landed him in the hospital for a fractured skull which will require surgery. Santos shared horrific pictures of his face, as well as the X-rays, which were then used to set up a GoFundMe by Cris Cyborg, Santos’ ex wife.

Earlier this month, at UFC 200, UFC veterans Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller both emerged from their respective bouts with KO wins. Miller kicked off the event on the UFC Fight Pass prelims, knocking out MMA legend Takanori Gomi in the very first round, ending his 2-fight losing streak.

Back in March, Nate Diaz stepped in on just two weeks notice to fight Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 196. While the bout was initially supposed to be a lightweight matchup, the pair fought at welterweight. McGregor gassed out early in the fight, going into the second round looking rather flat footed. Diaz capitalized on the situation, landing a 1-2 combination that rocked the featherweight champ. McGregor then shot for a takedown, which ultimately resulted in Diaz securing a rear-naked choke, forcing McGregor to tap.

After Urijah Faber recently dropped a one sided decision to Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of UFC 199, ‘The California Kid’ was noncommittal about his future in the Octagon. Less than a month after the bout however, it was announced that Faber would be returning to the Octagon at UFC 203 on September 10th to fight Jimmie Rivera. Despite being 0-4 in title fights in the UFC, Faber is confident that he can earn another title shot inside the Octagon.

Ovince Saint Preux was the last man to fight Jon Jones in the Octagon. Saint Preux did so on short notice as a replacement at UFC 197 after Daniel Cormier was forced to pull out of the fight with Jones due to an injury.

News came out on Monday during Jon Jones’ NSAC hearing on his temporary suspension that the substances “Bones” popped for were clomiphene and letrozole. Despite both his original sample and B-sample collected on June 16 came back with the same results, Jones is standing firm on his innocence.

Referees and judges play a major part in the fight game and on Monday, the officials for Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor 2 were announced. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto tweeted on Monday, “Officials for Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor: John McCarthy will referee. Judges: Derek Cleary, Jeff Mullen, Glenn Trowbridge.”

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) held a hearing on the extension of temporary suspension for Jon Jones on Monday following Jones’ potential Anti-Doping Policy violation. The hearing finally revealed the substances that Jones tested positive for that came from a June 16 out-of-competition sample.
