Leading up to UFC 207, there was much speculation as to whether former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey would return to the Octagon and showcase improved striking following her year-long hiatus following her one-sided KO loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193, where she lost the UFC women’s bantamweight championship. In the time since her UFC 207 loss to Amanda Nunes to close out 2017, Rousey has continued to receive criticism for her underdeveloped striking. In addition, Rousey’s head coach, Edmond Tarverdyan, has received quite a bit of criticism for his role in providing Rousey with what many believe to be a false sense of confidence in her striking.

One of the biggest moments of UFC 207, the UFC’s final card of the year 2016, was Cody Garbrandt’s title-winning defeat of Dominick Cruz. Garbrandt earned this victory with a lopsided unanimous decision in a performance that would become a late entrant into the 2016 Upset of the Year debate.

Back in July of 2016, Jackson-Winkeljohn student Lando Vannata made a short notice UFC debut against one of the best lightweights in the world: Tony Ferguson. Though Ferguson was expected to blow through his debuting foe, this is not the way things went down. Twice in the fight’s first round, a surprisingly confident Vannata was able to push his experienced foe to the very brink of a stoppage. In the second round, Ferguson was able to shake off the cobwebs and lock up a d’Arce choke for the win, but Vannata’s performance immediately earned him a reputation as a fighter to watch in the UFC lightweight division.

For quite some time now, reports have periodically surfaced that UFC superstar Conor McGregor is concerned with brain trauma. Prior to being signed to the UFC in 2013, Conor McGregor was reportedly concerned over the possibility of long-term brain damage. Despite that, the Irish superstar was signed to the promotion and went on quite the tear as he rattled off 7 straight wins, including a 13 second KO of Jose Aldo at UFC 194 which saw him claim the UFC featherweight championship.

The UFC had big plans for a dual-event weekend this March, as they hoped to promote a fight night card on the Friday immediately before UFC 209, which is scheduled for Saturday, March 4th in Las Vegas. Apparently, however, the organization has nixed these plans. This news was confirmed by MMAJunkie.com.

If you watched the landmark UFC 200 back in July of 2016, you may have noticed that returning former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar walked out to the Octagon in a Canadian Reebok fight kit. A quick look at the WWE star’s Wikipedia page, of course, reveals that he was born in South Dakota. He’s as American as apple pie. At least, he used to be. More recently, Lesnar and his family have relocated to a farm in the quiet Canadian prairie town of Maryfield Saskatchewan. Lesnar’s setting up shop in this tiny town – which is home to less than 500 people – is the reason for his walking out in Canadian colors at UFC 200. It’s the also the reason for his on-air appearance during a Monday night Winnipeg Jets NHL broadcast.

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made her first social media post since losing to the current chamion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on Monday. Rousey came back as the end of 2016, taking a year off from fighting after losing for the first time in her professional mixed martial arts career in 2015 against Holly Holm. The time off seemingly did not help Rousey in her comeback as she was devastated by Nunes in the first round of their title fight on December 30.

Last month we reported that a UFC welterweight title fight rematch between top contender Stephen Thompson and current title holder Tyron Woodley was in the works for March’s UFC 209 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas. Earlier today that title fight rematch became official, as Tyron Woodley announced on his podcast that he had accepted a rematch with “Wonderboy” for the March 4 event.

Stephen Thompson will get a second chance to become a UFC champion at March’s UFC 209 event in Las Vegas when he rematches current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. After some initial reluctance, Woodley just announced on his podcast that he will take the fight with Thompson at UFC 209.

When former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw left his long-time home in Sacramento’s Team Alpha Male, it created something of a media frenzy, as it was reported again and again that his relationships with his former Team Alpha Male training partners had been damaged irreparably. On the latest addition The MMA Hour, however, Dillashaw explained that things are not as tense as they seem between him and his former training partners. In fact, he was actually quite friendly with many of them during the buildup to UFC 207, when he defeated John Lineker, and current Team Alpha Male star Cody Garbrandt defeated Dominick Cruz.

Late last month, on the main card of UFC 207, TJ Dillashaw defeated John Lineker, and seemed to secure himself a shot at the winner of the card’s bantamweight title fight as he did so. In that bantamweight title fight, his former training partner Cody Garbrandt shocked the world by upsetting Dominick Cruz. During an appearance on Monday’s episode of the MMA Hour, Dillashaw weighed in on Garbrandt’s masterful performance, and despite what is often reported as a strained relationship between them, was quite complimentary his former training partner.
