On Sunday night, Stephen Thompson took to Twitter to announce that he had signed a contract to rematch Tyron Woodley at UFC 209 – just as we reported he would back in December. It looks as if Stephen Thompson will get a second chance to become a UFC champion at March’s UFC 209 event in Las Vegas. “Wonderboy” posted the following photo of a signed contract to rematch current UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley at UFC 209.

UFC 207 was big business for the UFC. Early estimates show that the stacked card did approximately 1.1 million pay-per-view buys. The card, which occurred on December 30 of 2016, was headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between returning former champion Ronda Rousey, and reigning divisional queen Amanda Nunes. Nunes won this fight in the biggest way possible, stopping her foe with punches in a mere 48 seconds.

Late last month, in the main event of UFC 207, Ronda Rousey made her long-awaited return to the Octagon opposite reigning women’s bantamweight Queen Amanda Nunes. Rousey’s comeback did not go the way she planned, as she was knocked senseless by Nunes in just 48 seconds. Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer had a front-row seat for this wild fight, and the buildup to it. During a recent appearance on The Pony Hour podcast, Buffer weighed in on Rousey’s demeanor during fight week. Contrary to her abrupt loss, he said she seemed to be very focused.

In a surprising turn of events, after Tony Ferguson revealed via social media several weeks ago that he would be holding out on signing his next fight contract until he received more money from the UFC, it now appears as though ‘El Cucuy’ will be returning to the Octagon sooner rather than later. Following a report from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that revealed that Khabib Nurmagomedov had moved on from a potential fight with Ferguson, and was now pursuing a fight with a top ranked fighter such as Michael Chiesa, Nurmagomedov’s father is claiming that Ferguson is indeed next for his son.

Kelvin Gastelum hopes to be a force at middleweight and welterweight

Kelvin Gastelum is one of the best welterweights on the planet, but there’s a definite asterisk attached to that statement. The young contender has missed the division’s 170-pound weight limit three times, most recently in November, when he was so far over weight for a planned bout with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone that he didn’t even bother stepping onto the scale. After this massive weigh in miss, Gastelum was sent packing to the middleweight division, where he recently scored a huge win over an elite foe in Tim Kennedy. In the wake of this win, Gastelum has now been pencilled in for a bout with Vitor Belfort in Brazil. If he wins it, he’ll find himself firmly embedded in the UFC middleweight top-15 – but don’t expect that to keep him in the division.

UFC lightweight #1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov has been eagerly attempting to secure a fight for early 2017 before he takes a month off in observance of Ramadan. Unfortunately for ‘The Eagle’, while he was looking to secure an interim lightweight title fight with Tony Ferguson, Ferguson revealed several weeks ago that he planned to hold out for more money from the UFC. While reports continued to surface tying Nurmagomedov to an interim lightweight title fight with various potential opponents, according to Nurmagomedov’s manager, ‘The Eagle’ is willing to fight anyone at 155 pounds.
