Cody Garbrandt wants to rematch Cruz, cut "snake" TJ Dillashaw's head off
Tom Taylor - January 13, 2017
Cody Garbrandt hasn’t been quiet since he stole the UFC bantamweight title from Dominick Cruz in late December. In the moments after his bantamweight title win, Garbrandt surprised by suggesting he’d like to give Cruz an immediate rematch. Shortly thereafter, he made waves by telling MMA reporter Ariel Helwani that he was interested in a “money fight” with reigning UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo. Both of these ideas, not surprisingly, drew the ire of TJ Dillashaw, a former bantamweight champion who currently holds the division’s number one contender spot.

Regrettably, however, Struve was forced out of this planned scrap with an injury, which left Dos Santos without an opponent. Still eager to fight in the near future, Dos Santos now has his eyes on two potential opponents. One is former champion Fabricio Werdum, who he knocked out back in 2008. The other is heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, who he defeated by decision in 2014.
Ben Affleck talks MMA in the movies, McGregor vs. Mayweather
Tom Taylor - January 13, 2017
As one of the new celebrity owners of the UFC, it should come as no surprise that Hollywood star Ben Affleck is an MMA fan. The Golden Globe winning actor and writer has expressed his MMA fandom many times in the past, even suggesting that, when acting in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, he based Batman’s fighting style on that of UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor. “He’s like a little bit more of a brawler – he’s more physical,” Affleck said of his Batman portrayal in an interview with Reuters. “You kind of get a feeling of a physical, visceral slugger thing. So the fights are a little more smash-mouth, UFC-influenced – Conor McGregor style.”

The fight had been in the works for quite some time after UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor revealed following his UFC 205 win over Eddie Alvarez that he would be taking some time off from fighting due to the upcoming birth of his firstborn child. While both Nurmagomedov and Ferguson appeared to be on-board for an interim lightweight title scrap, Ferguson then backtracked, demanding that the UFC give him the same money Nurmagomedov would be getting.

Bas Rutten's bold prediction for Brock Lesnar's MMA future
bjpenndotcom - January 13, 2017
In June of 2016, during the UFC 199 broadcast, the UFC announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would be returning to the Octagon at UFC 200 in July to fight Mark Hunt, nearly 5 years after his last Octagon appearance. At the time of the announcement six months ago, no one could have guessed that the announcement of Lesnar’s return would result in a controversy that would still continue to this day. Leading up to the scrap, Lesnar was given an exemption from the first 3 months of random USADA drug testing. When USADA was able to test Lesnar, they did so numerous times in the span of just a few weeks. While there had been no reports of failed drug tests, it wasn’t until after Lesnar defeated Hunt that it was announced that Lesnar had failed a pre-fight, and fight night, drug test.
Anderson Silva eyeing Michael Bisping rematch, with or without the belt
bjpenndotcom - January 13, 2017
Nearly a year ago, former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva stepped into the Octagon in the main event of ‘UFC Fight Night: London’ to square off with fellow MMA veteran Michael Bisping. The fight went the distance, and was certainly a controversial one, with Bisping ultimately being awarded the unanimous decision win in front of his hometown fans. With that being said however, at the end of the third round, Bisping motioned to referee Herb Dean in order to get his mouthpiece back. Dean did not step in and call a timeout, and Silva capitalized, landing a flying knee that dropped ‘The Count’ as the round ended. While Silva celebrated what he thought was a win, Bisping was recovering between rounds before the start of the fourth round.

Tom Taylor - January 13, 2017
Oft-criticized MMA coach Edmond Tarverdyan has recently been enduring a bit of a rough patch. In late 2015, his star pupil Ronda Rousey was turned off by a Holly Holm head kick in one of the biggest upsets our sport has ever seen. Rousey’s long-awaited comeback fight, which pitted her against Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 207, ended up looking more like a public execution, as she was mauled in just 48 seconds. And then, there’s Travis Browne, Tarverdyan’s next most prominent student. He’s currently on a tough, 2-fight losing streak and could conceivably be cut from the UFC if he comes up short in his next bout. Needless to say, things have not been going well for the infamous coach.
