Earlier this month, in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to London, England, British light heavyweight Jimi Manuwa scored a crushing, one-punch knockout win over the game Corey Anderson. While this win set Manuwa up for bouts with the best light heavyweight mixed martial artists in the world, he also used the performance to attempt to set up a boxing match with English star David Haye. Manuwa suggested that this bout could join the much discussed Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather mega-fight on a potential boxing vs. MMA card.

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson has quietly assembled one of the longest championship win-streaks in UFC history, having defended his belt a whopping nine times. If he successfully defends his title against Wilson Reis at UFC on Fox 24 this April, he’ll make it 10, and tie Anderson Silva for the record. Johnson’s next defense after Reis, then, would give him the opportunity to make history with the most consecutive title defenses of any UFC champion. While Johnson’s opportunity to set this record is still some time away – and contingent on the outcome of his fight with the dangerous Reis – one fighter is already angling to spoil it. And not just any fighter: UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt.

Back in January, UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal scored a career-altering knockout win over the streaking Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. This win sent the American Top Team staple rocketing up the UFC welterweight rankings. In the wake of this win, Masvidal quickly began calling for a fight with top welterweight contender Demian Maia. While Maia initially seemed reluctant to accept this fight, stating that he would prefer to wait for a shot at the title, he eventually signed on the dotted line. The two welterweights will go at it on the main card of UFC 211 this May 13.

This July the UFC will take over the glimmering combat sports hub of Las Vegas, Nevada with its now famous International Fight Week. The International Fight Week celebrations will be capped off by UFC 213 on July 8. At the moment, not much is known about this UFC 213 pay-per-view. From the sounds of it, however, this event might just have gotten its first major fight: a heavyweight rematch between former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum, and former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 champ Alistair Overeem.

Marc Diakiese recently cemented his name in the minds of MMA fans recently with his 1st round KO win over Temmu Packalen at ‘UFC Fight Night: London’ where he also picked up a highlight reel knockout following a beautiful series of kicks. Following that, the 2-0 UFC prospect engaged in a Twitter beef with UFC veteran Paul Felder, who told the Englishman to sign a contract to fight, or ‘shut up’. UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell stepped away from the Octagon many years ago following his UFC 115 KO loss to Rich Franklin, which saw him drop his third straight loss. How did Liddell know it was time to retire? In addition to realizing he was past his physical peak, he no longer enjoyed going to the gym and training. Now, years later, Liddell’s protege, Glover Teixeira, is applying the same philosophy to his own career. Despite being a staple of the UFC’s light heavyweight division, many believe Teixeira to be somewhat of a gatekeeper to the top 3 light heavyweights given his losses to Jon Jones, Phil Davis, and most recently Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson.

This exciting week, which is generally highlighted by several action-packed fight cards, has become the busiest stretch on the UFC’s annual calendar. This year will be no exception. Already, we have learned that the UFC is working on booking Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena for three consecutive early July nights – the 6th, the 7th, and the 8th.

Recently, UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping made headlines when he revealed that he would take away Georges St-Pierre’s middleweight title fight if the former welterweight kingpin wasn’t prepared for his Octagon return by July. In addition to threatening to take St-Pierre’s title shot away, Bisping threatened to give the fight to Yoel Romero, who was promised the next middleweight title shot by UFC President Dana White prior to St-Pierre returning to the UFC to fight Bisping.

A clip of the footage was released earlier this month, in which Dillashaw also explained that Lomachenko was such a difficult sparring opponent because of the angles he uses while boxing.

Bellator MMA has gone on a string of signings recently, acquiring several former UFC standouts, including Rory MacDonald, Lorenz Larkin, and Michael ‘Mayday’ McDonald to name just a few of the recent Bellator MMA signings that have come from the UFC. According to Bellator MMA President Scott Coker, the UFC’s deal with Reebok has been rather beneficial to Bellator MMA given the dissatisfaction among fighters over the deal.

Earlier this month, in the co-main event of the UFC’s latest trip to London, England, Iceland’s Gunnar Nelson stepped onto the canvas with a very game Alan Jouban. Despite the scale of this test, Nelson passed it with flying colors, rattling his foe with a second-round punch, following up with a high-kick, and chasing him to the mat to seal the deal with a choke. With this win, Nelson reminded the world why he is considered one of the best welterweights on the planet. Having done so, he can now look forward to fights with the division’s top dogs – and he has one particular opponent in mind to that end.
