Dylan Andrews "despised MMA" after UFC release, but stateside trip for Josh Samman service rekindled his fire
Tom Taylor - April 13, 2017
Earlier this month, in the main event of Superior Challenge 15 in Sweden, UFC and Ultimate Fighter veteran Dylan Andrews knocked out Papy Abedi with a thunderous, second-round head-kick. It was his second knockout defeat of the Swedish fighter. With this win, Andrews rebounded from a three-fight losing streak, a disappointing release from the UFC, and a hiatus of almost two years. Yet the win was important to the Australia-based Kiwi for another reason. It represented his rekindled love for the sport of MMA – a love that devolved into downright hatred around the time of his UFC release.
Anthony Pettis planning summer lightweight return
bjpenndotcom - April 13, 2017
Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis has had a bit of a difficult run as of 2015. After a 5-fight win streak that saw Pettis claim the UFC lightweight championship by submitting Benson Henderson in the 1st round of their UFC 164 fight, Pettis defended the belt just once before losing the title to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185. In his next fight, Pettis looked to return to the win column against Eddie Alvarez, who handed ‘Showtime’ his second straight loss, this one coming via split decision. Pettis then stepped into the Octagon with Edson Barboza at UFC 197 in hopes of snapping his 2-fight losing streak. Barboza handed Pettis his third straight loss, resulting in the former champ announcing a move to featherweight in hopes of experiencing a career resurgence. In Pettis’ featherweight debut, he fought Charles Oliveira in a highly anticipated showdown that saw Pettis snap his 3-fight skid, and pick up an impressive win in his featherweight debut. Unfortunately, in just his next fight, Pettis was TKOd by Max Holloway at UFC 206 in a highly anticipated fight for the interim featherweight title.

The topic of fighter pay is one that has long been discussed by fighters, and has continued to see the UFC receive criticism from fighters who feel as though the promotion doesn’t fairly compensate their fighters. UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is arguably the most dominant fighter on the UFC roster, going undefeated since his 2011 loss to Dominick Cruz, which to this day remains the only UFC loss on his record. This weekend, Johnson will look to tie UFC legend Anderson Silva’s record for most successful UFC title defenses when he faces Wilson Reis in a highly anticipated ‘UFC on FOX’ showdown.

After multiple NYSAC blunders, New Jersey's Jim Miller doesn't want to fight in New York again
Tom Taylor - April 13, 2017
Last weekend, the UFC touched down in Buffalo, New York with UFC 210. The event marked the promotion’s fourth show in the state, after stops in Manhattan, Albany, and Brooklyn. Nearly all of these shows have included some form of controversy, much of which can be attributed to the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC). The commission is experiencing serious growing pains as it learns to sanction mixed martial arts, which was only recently legalized in the state. UFC lightweight Jim Miller has now fought twice in the state: first, against Thiago Alves at UFC 205 in Manhattan , then against Dustin Poirier at UFC 208 in Brooklyn. Both times he fought in the state, Miller has been seriously inconvenienced by the NYSAC. This, when coupled with the commissions many blunders at the recent UFC 210, have left him with little desire to fight in New York again. Miller shared his grievances on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio.

Last weekend, in the main event of UFC 210, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier scored an impressive, second-round submission win over the ever-dangerous Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Regrettably, Cormier’s win was not without controversy. On the Friday morning before his battle with Rumble, Cormier stepped onto the scale and weighed in a 206.2 pounds, 1.2 pounds over the required weight for a light heavyweight title fight. Initially, it looked as though disaster had struck. Cormier was over weight, and it appeared the title fight would be off. But then, in an unprecedented twist, he was allowed to weigh in again just minutes later, and this time, he met the required weight of 205 pounds. That’s where the controversy emerged.
