A welterweight scrap between veterans Matt Brown and Diego Sanchez served as the co-main event of tonight’s UFC Fight Night card in Norfolk, Virginia. Round one begins and Diego charges out quickly. He lands a right hand and then shoots in for a takedown. Brown works in an elbow as Sanchez wrestles for a single leg takedown. Matt is doing a good job of defending. Diego works in some knees to the thigh of Brown. Matt is trying hard to break off of the cage but Sanchez won’t let him. Brown finally breaks free. Diego catches him with a shot to the body. Brown circles and then connects with a nice left jab. Diego charges forward with a right hand over the top that just misses. He dives in for a single leg but it is not there. Brown lands a low kick followed by a jab. Diego returns fire with a kick of his own. He hurts Brown with that one. Matt briefly retreats and then comes back in the pocket. Brown lands a nice knee to the body. He follows that up with an elbow over the top that floors Diego. Oh my goodness. This one is all over!

A heavyweight scrap between Junior Albini and former division champion Andrei Arlovski took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night card in Norfolk, Virginia. Round one begins and Albini charges forward with punches. Arlovski circles out but Junior stays on him with another flurry. Arlovski connects with a right hand that immediately gets the attention of Albini. Junior misses with a wild right and Andrei connects with a left. Arlovski goes to the body with a punch. Junior clinches up and presses Andrei against the cage. He works in some knees from the position. The fighters break and Arlovski connects with a right hand over the top. He follows that up with a pair of hard low kicks. Another overhand right from Andrei. Junior presses forward and lands a left hand followed by a knee. Arlovski rips the body but then gets countered with a hook. Junior shoots in and presses Andrei back up against the cage. He works in a knee. Arlovski returns fire with one of his own. Albini lands an elbow as the fighters break. Both men are swinging wildly. The horn sounds to end round one.

A middleweight scrap between Nate Marquardt and Cezar Ferreira took place on tonight’s UFC Fight Night main card in Norfolk. Round one begins and Marquardt quickly takes the center of the octagon. Cezar fires off a low kick that connects. He attempts another but Nate is able to avoid the strike. Marquardt leaps in with a left hand. Cezar returns fire with a low kick. Marquardt is utilizing a lot of forward pressure early. “Mutante” lands a right hand followed by a low kick. Nate fires back with a low kick of his own. Cezar just misses with a straight left. He presses forward with a head kick but Nate blocks it rather easily. Marquardt misses with a right hand and eats a left. Cezar connects with a solid kick to the body. Nate circles out. Cezar with another solid low kick. Nate counters with a right hand that connects. Cezar tries to go upstairs with a head kick but it is blocked. Nate has a cut over his right eye. Cezar is also bleeding from a cut on the bridge of his nose. Cezar with another low kick that connects. Nate connects with a hard outside low kick that briefly sends Cezar to the canvas. Ferreira gets back up and Nate lands another good kick. Marquardt with a right hand. Round one comes to an end.

A bantamweight tilt between Raphael Assuncao and Matthew Lopez took place at tonight’s UFC Fight Night card in Norfolk. Assuncao battered Lopez’s lead leg with heavy kicks for the duration of the fight before eventually landing a huge right hand in round three that put Matthew away.

A lightweight scrap between Sage Northcutt and Michel Quinones took place on tonight’s UFC Norfolk prelims. Round one begins and Michel starts off with a leg kick. Sage counters with a nice 1-2. Quinones attempts a superman punch but Sage greets him with another cross. Northcutt just misses with a spinning wheel kick attempt. Sage working his jab now. Michel attacks his lead leg and then connects with a right. Sage’s nose is now bloody. Northcutt circles and then lands a big shot the causes Michel to stumble back against the cage. Quinones comes forward wining shots. Sage once again counters nicely with a cross. Sage misses with another head kick attempt. He follows that up with a jumping knee but eats a side kick from Michel. Sage dives for a takedown as round one comes to an end.

Popular UFC fighter Paige VanZant has turned down an offer to fight former bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko. “The Bullet”, Valentina Shevchenko, had recently announced her intentions to drop down to the UFC’s new women’s flyweight division, this following her controversial split-decision loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 215 in September.

It’s everywhere by now in big bold letters. Conor McGregor storms into the Bellator cage, not once, but twice. He shoves around Marc Goddard and slaps a Bellator official like he’s trying to do his best Nate Diaz impression. What you may haven’t seen yet, is video directly after the chaos. Conor McGregor galloped outside with his friends and teammates, still reeling from Charle Ward’s victory and the pandemonium he caused. Immediately, he carries on about ‘rat’ referee Marc Goddard. “I was still trying to say, ‘Keep going,’ and it’s that same referee [Marc Goddard] who I lost me head with him [at UFC Gdansk]. I said, ‘It’s you, you rat.’ He nearly f-cking crapped his jocks. Oh, it was a beautiful shot [from Charlie Ward]. [John Redmond]’s out cold, we all knew he was out cold and he’s still trying to call it. ‘Oh no, he wasn’t the fight’s not over.’ I said, ‘It’s you, you rat. There’s no secret that Tyron Woodley wanted the winner between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre’s fight at UFC 217. Now that St-Pierre made his successful return and captured the UFC middleweight title, Woodley has stepped into overdrive to try and make this superfight happen. On his new show with TMZ Executive Producer Evan Roseblum, Woodley talked to the man face-to-face to get the biggest fight of his career. “Now you’ve had your warm-up fight, you’ve beat up [Michael] Bisping. I think it’s time to solidify. You’re the greatest welterweight of all time. That’s my goal to be the greatest welterweight of all time. Let’s get it in. Forget the contract, you were the welterweight king at one point. Anything that’s gonna’ sell, the UFC’s gonna’ do. I’ll come up to middleweight, we can do that fight there. Both of us don’t have to get in the sauna’s much. Let’s get it in. Robert Whittaker or Tyron Woodley? Just think about it. Legacy wise for me? There’s not a fight I want more.”

Last night there were some great fights at Bellator 187, but it was a UFC fighter who stole the show. Conor McGregor stormed the cage as his Straight Blast Gym teammate Charlie Ward finished John Redmond at the Dublin card and started a pandemonium not seen since the infamous Strikeforce brawl. He shoved referee Marc Goddard and even slapped an official in the face. President of the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports (ABC) Mike Mazzulli was regulating the event and has released an official statement about the incident.  “While the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation (MTDAR) was regulating Bellator 187 in Dublin, Ireland, on November 10th, 2017, the following events took place during the Ward vs Redmond bout. Mr. Conor McGregor who was a spectator at the time, disrupted the event by scaling the cage prior to the conclusion of the bout. Mr. McGregor’s conduct jeopardized the health and safety of the bout participants by delaying necessary medical attention to the fighters that were injured during the round.”

News broke yesterday that Anderson Silva has been pulled from his fight with Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Shanghai due to a possible anti-doping violation. Gastelum said he is staying on the card, but the fight is just two weeks away and that makes it difficult to find a replacement. That is, unless Mike Perry hears the news. Darren Till’s hype is like a meteor after finishing Cowboy Cerrone at UFC Gdansk, but what good is momentum if the guy can’t get a fight? Mike Perry and Till had their screaming match after the fight, but he’s booked for the time being. Our hearts skipped a beat when Dana White announced Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson and Till were going to scrap, but Thompson quickly squashed the news. It was frustrating enough for Darren Till to post that the welterweight division is all running scared, which led none other than Gunnar Nelson to chime in. Before making her return to the UFC, Angela Hill strung together a four-fight win streak and captured the strawweight title in Invicta FC. The last loss she had before leaving the organization was against Rose Namajunas. That was only two years ago, but it’s wild to see how much has changed within that short time. While Hill is still unranked, her plan is to stack some wins together to eventually have a chance to avenge her loss to the new UFC strawweight champion. “I’ve always wanted my rematches, but I wanted to make sure that I was ready when I did have those rematches. You know, everyone’s on the list that I’ve lost to when it comes to that. But I definitely feel like I was a totally different fighter when I did fight [Rose Namajunas]. I was motivated to fight [Joanna Jedrzejczyk] when she was champ. I was hoping that I could work my way up to that. I was already thinking about what I was going to do for the face-off and everything. But now that she’s out of the picture, she’s still going to be around. I’d still love to fight her at some point. Yeah, I’m definitely going for that title run after I feel I’ve got enough wins, and I’ve impressed enough to get a go at [Namajunas].”

There has been a lot of talk with the return of Georges St-Pierre. With his historic win over Michael Bisping at UFC 217, GSP became the fourth fighter in history to become a two-weight UFC world champion. St-Pierre says that he is contractually obligated to fight interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker next, if he decides to continue competing. However, many fans and pundits are all clamoring over a matchup between GSP and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
