Darren Till issues statement after submission loss to Tyron Woodley

On Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 228, Liverpool’s Darren Till stepped into the Octagon with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, keen to take the welterweight belt for himself. Unfortunately for Till and his legions of fans, this fight did not go the way he planned. Instead, he was dropped and submitted by the champion in the bout’s second round. Having failed to capture the UFC welterweight title — and experienced the first defeat of his professional MMA career — it’s now back to the drawing board for Darren Till. While this loss is bound to be a tough pill to swallow, however, he seems to be in reasonably good spirits, all things considered.

Yesterday morning unfortunate news broke that UFC women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano had been hospitalized in the midst of her UFC 228 weight cut due to issues with her kidneys. This of course resulted in Nicco Montano being pulled from her scheduled UFC 228 title defense against Valentina Shevchenko which was expected to serve as the evenings co-main event.

Initially, UFC women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano was expected to attempt her first title defense opposite Valentina Shevchenko in the co-main event of UFC 228 tomorrow night in Dallas. Regrettably, Montano was hospitalized just before this morning’s weigh ins, and after a period of uncertainty and worry, it was confirmed that the champion will unfortunately not be able to fight on the card. With the removal of this Montano vs. Shevchenko fight from the UFC 228 bill, a main card bout between former strawweight title challengers Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz has been elevated to the UFC 228 co-main event slot.
