UFC 228 main card gets adjusted after Montano-Shevchenko cancellation

By Tom Taylor - September 7, 2018

Initially, UFC women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano was expected to attempt her first title defense opposite Valentina Shevchenko in the co-main event of UFC 228 tomorrow night in Dallas. Regrettably, Montano was hospitalized just before this morning’s weigh ins, and after a period of uncertainty and worry, it was confirmed that the champion will unfortunately not be able to fight on the card.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz, UFC 228

With the removal of this Montano vs. Shevchenko fight from the UFC 228 bill, a main card bout between former strawweight title challengers Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz has been elevated to the UFC 228 co-main event slot.

In addition, an undercard bantamweight bout between top-10 contenders Jimmie Rivera and John Dodson has been hoisted up to the round out the main card.
