Ever since then fans have been clamoring to see the two square off again, but up to this point, the stars have yet to align.

MMA manager Abe Kawa says that UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is injured and is proposing his client Jorge Masvidal and star Conor McGregor fight for an interim belt. McGregor knocked out Donald Cerrone in the first round in his return to the Octagon at UFC 246. It was McGregor’s first win since November 2016 when he beat Eddie Alvarez. In attendance for the fight were both of Usman and Masvidal, two men that McGregor has been linked to for his next fight.

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker was expected to return to the cage opposite Jared Cannonier at UFC 248, but was regrettably forced out of the content with personal issues. Speaking to Submission Radio ahead of UFC 246 over the weekend, UFC President Dana White addressed those personal issues. While he didn’t divulge what Whittaker is going through, he praised the former champion for his selflessness and even seemed to get a bit choked up when the subject was broached.

The oddsmakers have released the betting odds for who will be Conor McGregor’s next opponent inside the Octagon, and they may be surprising to you. McGregor defeated Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246 to make a statement in his return to the Octagon after 14 months away. As soon as the fight ended, fighters such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman all became viable opponents for McGregor’s next bout. But only one of them will win the sweepstakes.

UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski took a shot at UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo, and ‘Triple C’ responded in a funny social media exchange. Volkanovski joked that he should call out the loser of the featherweight undercard bout between Sodiq Yusuff and Andre Fili, which Yusuff won via unanimous decision, and tagged Cejudo in his Tweet. “The Great” was clearly taking a shot at Cejudo for his decision to fight Jose Aldo despite him coming off of a split decision loss to Marlon Moraes at UFC 245.

UFC women’s bantamweight star Holly Holm released a statement following her unanimous decision win over Raquel Pennington at UFC 246. Holm was able to pin Pennington against the fence and control her while also outstriking her opponent during their standup exchanges to pick up a clear-cut decision win. Holm previously defeated Pennington via split decision in her UFC debut back at UFC 184 in February 2015.

UFC women’s flyweight prospect Maycee Barber was blasted by veteran Lauren Murphy for taking the mic from Joe Rogan following her loss at UFC 246. Barber lost a lopsided decision to Roxanne Modafferi in what was one of the biggest upsets of all-time in UFC history according to the betting odds. Following the loss, Barber took the mic from Rogan before Modafferi did and spoke to the crowd.

UFC president Dana White said that Darren Till is injured and the promotion is looking for a new opponent against Jared Cannonier at UFC 248. Till this week was revealed as the replacement opponent for Robert Whittaker, who pulled out of UFC 248 due to personal issues. However, the UFC is once again looking for a new opponent for Cannonier because Till is also injured. According to White, Till injured his ankle and is out of UFC 248.

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman saw his Twitter hacked during UFC 246, but Conor McGregor isn’t necessarily buying the story. Usman’s Twitter account sent out several profanity-laced Tweets directed towards McGregor and his wife during UFC 246. At the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White confirmed that Usman’s Twitter was hacked.

ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith scolded Donald Cerrone for an “atrocious” performance against Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 246. Cerrone was finished via strikes by McGregor early in the first round, his third straight TKO loss following defeats to Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson in his last two fights. Following the event, Smith appeared on the ESPN+ post-fight fight and ripped into Cerrone for what he deemed was a terrible performance.

UFC lightweight contender Anthony Pettis has reacted following his second-round submission loss to Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC 246. Pettis was outstruck to lose the first round and in the second Ferreira went to his ground game as he was able to get Pettis to the mat and then finish him with a nasty neck crank. With the loss, Pettis has now suffered his first two-fight losing skid since 2016.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather took to social media last night after UFC 246 to tease fights against both Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2020. Mayweather always tries to insert himself into the news even when he’s not the one competing. On Saturday, McGregor returned to the Octagon after a 14-month layoff to knock out Donald Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246. Following the event, Mayweather teased a fight against McGregor and one against Nurmagomedov.
