Last month UFC President Dana White told ESPN that former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz would return to the octagon at March’s UFC 235 event against Jorge Masvidal. The news was exciting for fight fans, as Nick Diaz has not competed in nearly for years. The native of Stockton, California was most recently seen in action at UFC 183, where he suffered a decision loss to Anderson Silva. That result was eventually overturned to a no-contest, this after “The Spider” tested positive for PED’s and Diaz was flagged for marijuana.

Business is seemingly never easy with the Diaz brothers. With both of them having not fought inside the UFC for years now, it may be time that one of them moves on from the promotion as they’re both ready to return to action. For the elder Diaz, Nick, it will have been four years since he last competed in MMA come February. Now finding interest in fighting again, he is apparently back.

The UFC had a very, very difficult time locking down a main event for UFC 230, which went down earlier this month in New York City’s famous Madison Square Garden. While the card’s headlining spot was ultimately filled by a heavyweight title fight between champ Daniel Cormier and challenger Derrick Lewis, there were reportedly also discussions of a welterweight main event between interim champ Colby Covington and Nick Diaz. While Colby Covington says he would have been willing to fight Nick Diaz in the UFC 230 main event, the fight never came together. And now he says Diaz has missed his chance.

Over the last few years, we’ve all been wondering when Nick and Nate Diaz will fight again. The brothers have been fan favorites for ages now, but both have taken years off when it seemed like their popularity and their skill was at an all-time high. While it now sounds as though Nick Diaz will return to action opposite Jorge Masvidal at UFC 235, has hasn’t fought since UFC 183 in 2015, when he took on Anderson Silva in a fight that was ruled a no contest when he tested positive for marijuana and Silva tested positive for drostanolone. Although his long absence is due in part to a suspension, his interest in competing has also been questioned.

Yesterday afternoon, the MMA community was hit by the exciting news that, after four long years away from the Octagon, former Strikeforce welterweight champ and UFC welterweight title challenger Nick Diaz could soon be returning. According to a report from ESPN, the Stockton-based fan favorite could be making his long-awaited comeback opposite Jorge Masvidal at UFC 235. One of the first members of the MMA community to react to this news was Ben Askren, one of the highest-profile UFC signings of late. Askren, who is the former ONE Championship and Bellator lightweight king, is currently linked to a January scrap with former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Jorge Masvidal and Nick Diaz competing inside the Octagon…could we see them return at the same time? Knowing both of the Diaz brothers, that’s probably a pretty unlikely fight to take. Low reward with high risk doesn’t seem like the kind of fights that Stockton’s finest have interest in these days but we never know.

Over the weekend, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov picked up his first title defense — and the biggest win of his career — choking out former lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor in the first round. While Nurmagomedov’s win over McGregor was quite lopsided, it wasn’t enough to impress former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz. In Diaz’s eyes, Conor McGregor didn’t look like himself in the fight. He also finds Khabib Nurmagomedov’s fighting style ‘dirty.’

In fact, Nick Diaz feels Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor really aren’t as good as everybody is letting on, and that he’d beat both of them.

Last Saturday night, in the main event of the action-packed UFC 228 card in Dallas, Texas, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley defended his title with a second-round submission of formerly undefeated British striking specialist Darren Till. While most fans and pundits were very impressed by Woodley’s big stoppage win, not everybody was. Nick Diaz, for example, seems to think it was a bit of a squash match. Yesterday afternoon, we learned that the domestic violence charges against former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz had been dismissed by the Las Vegas, Nevada District Attorney’s office. “[Diaz is] grateful the District Attorney’s office was fair and thoughtful in reviewing this case based on the evidence,” Diaz’s attorney Ross Goodman said in a statement to ESPN.

Nick Diaz’s legal situation has gotten amply worse. According to a report from MMAjunkie, the former Strikeforce welterweight champ and UFC welterweight title challenger has been hit with two new charges in an amended complaint filed by prosecutors from the Clark County District Attorney’s office. They are: “an additional felony count of battery constituting domestic violence by strangulation, and felony battery domestic violence resulting in substantial bodily harm.”

MMAJunkie has confirmed initial reports from Front Row Brian that former Strikeforce welterweight champion and UFC veteran, Nick Diaz has been arrested for alleged domestic violence in Las Vegas. The charges are that of felony domestic battery by strangulation, along with a misdemeanor domestic battery for the alleged incident. Diaz’ bail has been set at $18,000. He will not be able to post bail until after his court hearing tomorrow at 9am PST.
