Nick Diaz on potential boxing match with Canelo: ‘I’m a better fighter, I’m a bigger draw’

Ever since Conor McGregor transitioned to boxing to fight Floyd Mayweather, other MMA fighters have been calling out boxers. One of the latest to do so is former Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz, who is now calling out decorated boxing champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

The payday associated with this potential fight would be huge for Nick Diaz. He also believes it’d be an easy night of work.

“I’ve never even thought about that, but the guy is moving up to 168 and fighting some no names,” Nick Diaz told TMZ. “Let’s be real Canelo moving up to my weight, he ain’t gonna win that fight. No way, come on man. You’re just basically one of them little guys I spar before I fight. I am a professional fighter, I’ve had over 37 fights.”

“Nothing personal. Motherf**ker don’t speak English so he ain’t knowing what I’m saying anyway.”

While Nick Diaz is certainly bigger than Canelo, it can’t exactly be said that the Mexican boxer is fighting no names. He’s coming off back-to-back wars with fellow pound-for-pound star Gennady Golovkin, and has also battled names like Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto, and of course, Floyd Mayweather, who is the only man he’s lost to.

It’s also hard to imagine that Diaz is serious about fighting Canelo, as he hasn’t stepped foot in the Octagon since January 2015, when he fought Anderson Silva in an infamous no-contest. That said, Diaz has said before that he has interest in returning to action, and the hefty paydays of the boxing world might be enough to get him back. However, he would need the UFC’s approval first, as he’s still under contract with the promotion.

If the fight were to happen, Nick Diaz assures he’d be the one that fans tune in for. He considers himself a bigger draw than Canelo.

“Y’all getting the money, if y’all gonna make all that money, making billions of dollars or millions of dollars now, I’m a better fighter, I’m a bigger draw,” he said.
