Report | Jorge Masvidal offered fight with Nick Diaz

By Drake Riggs - October 24, 2018

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Jorge Masvidal and Nick Diaz competing inside the Octagon…could we see them return at the same time?

Knowing both of the Diaz brothers, that’s probably a pretty unlikely fight to take. Low reward with high risk doesn’t seem like the kind of fights that Stockton’s finest have interest in these days but we never know.

Surely, which is why fights like this get offered around as FrontRowBrian reports that this one has been.

Another interesting news item today…. @GamebredFighter has been offered a fight with @nickdiaz209. Jorge has accepted.
No word yet from Nick.
Keep in mind, Nick has been offered several fights since becoming eligible again. Declined them all.

“Gamebred” Masvidal last fought at UFC 217 in November 2017 when he took on Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Unfortunately for Masvidal, he would suffer his second defeat in a row via unanimous decision.

As for the former Strikeforce champion in Diaz, he has not fought since January 2015 when he took on Anderson Silva in a middleweight bout. Initially, Diaz lost by unanimous decision but after each fighter tested positive after the fight (Diaz for marijuana and Silva for drostanolone and androsterone) it was overturned to a no contest.

Prior to that bout, Diaz lost two welterweight title bouts to the likes of Carlos Condit (which was for an interim) and Georges St-Pierre.

Both Diaz and Masvidal have established themselves as two of the most fearless fighters in their division and stylistically a matchup between the two would be sure to deliver the excitement. But again, the Diaz’ have made it clear that they will generally need a lot to be offered to them for them to take fights nowadays.

But hey, Demetrious Johnson and Ben Askren are being swapped between the UFC and ONE Championship in 2018 so anything is possible.
