Michael Bisping: "I was not for one second buying Jose Aldo as the featherweight champion"
Tom Taylor - June 7, 2017
Over the weekend, in the main of UFC 212, streaking Hawaiian star Max Holloway claimed the undisputed UFC featherweight title with an exciting, third-round TKO of the once-dominant Jose Aldo. In the opinion of UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, this is the best possible thing that could have happened for the featherweight division. “I think it’s fantastic that Max Holloway won and I think he had to win to put life back into the 145 [pound] division,” Bisping said on his podcast Believe You Me. “Because honestly, Jose Aldo is a great fighter, Jose Aldo had an amazing career, Jose Aldo this, Jose Aldo that, all this f**king good stuff is so positive – I was not for one second buying Jose Aldo as the featherweight champion. I’m sorry but he got knocked the eff out in 13 seconds and then in his next fight he fights Frankie Edgar and all of the sudden he’s the champion again. So for me, I never bought into that.

This past weekend at UFC 212, interim featherweight champion Max Holloway stepped into the Octagon with undisputed featherweight champion Jose Aldo for a highly anticipated showdown in Brazil. Ultimately, Holloway weathered an early storm from Aldo before ultimately finishing the champ via TKO in the third round to claim the undisputed featherweight title. Immediately the MMA community began to speculate as to who Holloway would defend his title against. The first name mentioned was former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who has been on a tear of the UFC’s featherweight division.

Tom Taylor - June 6, 2017
Last Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 212, UFC interim featherweight champion Max Holloway stepped into the cage with the goal of unifying his title with the undisputed title owned by Jose Aldo. For the first two rounds of the fight, it looked as though Holloway was in trouble, as Aldo seemed to be in control, rattling his young foe with hard shots on more than one occasion. In the third, however, the tide turned in Holloway’s favor. Aldo began to fade, and Holloway cranked up the offense. Before the third round ended, he was being peeled off his legendary foe for a third-round TKO win. With this win, Holloway became the UFC’s undisputed featherweight king. Now 18-3 in sum, and 11-0 in his last 11 fights, he seems poised to embark on a dominant run as UFC featherweight champion. In the meantime, however, Holloway has made a return to his native Hawaii, and from the looks of it, he received a hero’s welcome when he landed on the island.

Frankie Edgar makes his case for the first crack at new featherweight champ Max Holloway
Tom Taylor - June 5, 2017
Last Saturday, in the main event of UFC 212, Max Holloway ushered in a new era in the UFC featherweight division by taking out once dominant champion Jose Aldo with third-round punches. While many new champions are quick to call for money fights, Holloway quickly made it clear that this will not be his focus. Instead, he plans to channel Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and defend his new title as many times as possible. When it comes to opponents for his first title defense, there seems to be two men at the top of the list. One is Cub Swanson, who Holloway has defeated before. Swanson has been voraciously campaigning for the fight on social media over the last 48 hours. The other is Frankie Edgar, one of the few top featherweights Holloway is yet to fight.
New champ Max Holloway on Conor McGregor: He can beg to fight me now
Tom Taylor - June 4, 2017
Last night, in the main event of UFC 212, Max Holloway scored a career-defining TKO win over once dominant featherweight king Jose Aldo. With this win, Holloway became the UFC’s undisputed featherweight champion, and extended his win-streak to a ridiculous eleven-straight. Given his current streak, many fans have broached the possibility of a rematch between Holloway and the last man he lost to, Conor McGregor. Yet McGregor, who knocked Aldo out to win featherweight gold in 2015, is currently chasing a boxing mega fight with Floyd Mayweather, and Holloway doesn’t plan on chasing him down for a lucrative rematch.

Max Holloway gives his take on Magana-Cyborg drama
Tom Taylor - May 28, 2017
Earlier this month, the UFC flew the majority of its roster out to Las Vegas, Nevada for a special, weekend-long athletes retreat. Unsurprisingly, this weekend produced several tense moments between fighters. The most high-profile run-in featured UFC strawweight Angela Magana and featherweight star Cris “Cyborg” Justino. The incident, which stemmed from some nasty comments Magana made about Cyborg online, ended with Cyborg punching Magana in the face.
Jose Aldo sustains nasty cut in training, optimistic UFC 212 bout with Holloway won't be affected
Tom Taylor - May 10, 2017
In a little over three weeks’ time, in the main event of UFC 212, Jose Aldo will attempt to unify his undisputed featherweight title with the interim featherweight title of Max Holloway. Unfortunately, Aldo has sustained a pretty significant cut in training – significant enough that it required him to get five stitches. Though this initially sounds like disastrous news for UFC 212’s main event, Aldo assures the fight will go ahead as planned, promising that the placement of the cut renders it a non-issue.
Max Holloway responds to strange, upside-down UFC 212 poster
Tom Taylor - May 9, 2017
Yesterday, the UFC released the official poster for UFC 212, which will be headlined by a featherweight title unification bout between undisputed champ Jose Aldo, and interim champ Max Holloway. This poster, which is half upside-down, half right-side-up, is a bit of a weird one. In the past, we’ve seen other fighters complain about their size, position, and placement on official UFC fight posters. UFC light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier, for example, did so when he first saw the official poster for UFC 210, which showed him, superimposed in front of a massive Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Given this, some fans expected a negative reaction from Holloway – the upside-down party on this strange UFC 212 poster.
