Cory Sandhagen is simply of a higher caliber than Mario Bautista, despite the latter improving since their first fight, according to a PFL San Diego bantamweight fighter. The combatant in question is Justin Wetzell, who will test skills with Sarvarjon Khamidov at PFL San Diego on June 27th.

Both Wetzell and Sandhagen are elite bantamweights who have gotten in a bit of work together before their respective fights, per the PFL San Diego combatant, as both will compete for the two domestic giants within the MMA world this Summer. Weighing in on long-time training partner Sandhagen’s looming rematch with Mario Bautista coming up at UFC 329 on July 11th, Wetzell said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“It’s a tough fight, man. I mean, every fight in the UFC, PFL is; once you’re in that top 10 area, they’re all going to be hard fights. Obviously, Cory [Sandhagen] has already gotten the submission win over Mario [Bautista]. That was Mario coming in on short notice. Mario’s gotten a lot, lot better since that fight. So, this is a very tough matchup. That being said, I think Cory is just a little bit better at everything, and I think he’ll take this one home.”

Cory Sandhagen touts “gigantic” spot on McGregor vs. Holloway II card: “it’s going to be nuts. I’m pumped for it”

Cory Sandhagen seems excited that this is the first rematch of his professional MMA career, but also recognizes the magnitude of being on a card with MMA’s biggest star ever in Conor McGregor, who has his own sequel clash headlining this year’s International Fight Week event, as Sandhagen stated [via Middle Easy],

“Mentally, the fight part, just the competition piece, it’s always the same, but as far as all of the other stuff, yeah. I mean dude, there’s gonna, there’s got to be like four or five times as many people watching this one than any other average card. So, I mean, yeah, that’s gigantic. And we’re two fights before [Conor] McGregor [Max] Holloway, so I’m sure that the crowd is going to be crazy and yeah, it’s going to be nuts. I’m pumped for it.”
