By Tom Taylor - July 12, 2018

According to a report from BJPENN.COM’s Chris Taylor, a key featherweight bout between former title challengers Frankie Edgar and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung is in being targeted for UFC 229, which goes down in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 6.

Frankie Edgar, Korean Zombie

Frankie Edgar, who is the former UFC lightweight champion, is currently riding the momentum of a second, dominant defeat of Cub Swanson. This impressive victory was preceded by a knockout loss to Brian Ortega — the first strike-induced defeat of his career. This loss to Ortega marked the end of a two-fight streak for Edgar, composed of dominant defeats of Jeremy Stephens and Yair Rodriguez. Other highlights of his illustrious career include wins over Jim Edwards, Sean Sherk, BJ Penn (three times), Gray Maynard, Urijah Faber and Chad Mendes. Edgar is currently 23-6-1 overall.

The Korean Zombie, meanwhile, has not fought since February of 2017, when he returned from a multi-year hiatus to knock out long-time featherweight contender Dennis Bermudez. His next most recent fight occurred in August of 2014, when he came up short in a title fight with then champion Jose Aldo. Other highlights of his resume include an incredible submission win over Leonard Garcia, a seven-second knockout of Mark Hominick, and unforgettable wars with Garcia and Dustin Poirier. The fan favorite Korean currently owns an overall record of 14-4.

At present, no other fights have been booked for UFC 229, though the card has repeatedly been linked to the return of Conor McGregor, and to the first title defense of Khabib Nurmagomedov.
