Derrick Lewis expects to make quick work of Waldo Cortes-Acosta at UFC 324: ‘No business in the cage with me’

Derrick Lewis doesn’t understand why he’s fighting Waldo Cortes-Acosta at UFC 324.

Although Cortes-Acosta is ranked ahead of Lewis, ‘The Black Beast’ doesn’t think highly of his opponent. Lewis also can’t believe he’s the underdog, as he believes Cortes-Acosta doesn’t even belong in the Octagon with him.

“I don’t be seeing what these oddsmakers be seeing when they’re picking against me,” Lewis said at UFC 324 media day. “Every time, I’m like, ‘What in the hell are they talking about?’

“I just watched the same video, the same fights that these people been watching. Are you really serious betting against me like that? Like once again, Saturday you will see. He should’ve had no business in the cage with me.”

Lewis believes Waldo Cortes-Acosta is very similar to Roy Nelson, whom he beat back in 2016. With that, he doesn’t expect the Dominican to surprise him at all

Derrick Lewis expects KO win at UFC 324

With Derrick Lewis not expecting to be surprised by Cortes-Acosta’s skills, he has full confidence in his skillset.

Lewis believes he’s in the best shape of his life and expects to swarm Cortes-Acosta early to get a quick KO win to prove he’s still an elite heavyweight contender.

“First-round knockout,” Lewis said. “He’s going to try to say I poked him in the eye, but it’s not going to be an eye poke. Watch.”

If Lewis does KO Cortes-Acosta at UFC 324, it would be a statement win for him. It would also put Lewis back in the top five at heavyweight and could put him right back in the title picture.

Derrick Lewis (29-12 and one NC) is on a two-fight winning streak and is coming off a KO win over Tallison Teixeira. Before that, he scored a knockout win over Rodrigo Nascimento.
