Michael Chandler has had some time to mull over his latest defeat against Mauricio Ruffy.

Chandler was searching for his first victory since 2022 when he competed on the White House lawn for UFC Freedom 250. Instead, “Iron” suffered his fourth straight loss. Chandler was stopped in the opening frame via TKO. At the age of 40, many are wondering if Chandler will decide to hang up his gloves.

The former Bellator champion didn’t mention the possibility of retirement in a video posted on his Instagram account. Instead, Chandler took the time to praise Ruffy for his performance and express gratitude for the blessing in his life (via MMAFighting).

“Obviously, the fight did not go my way, but I’m in good spirits,” Chandler said. “I’m happy. I’m healthy. I’m hard to kill. I’m impossible to kill. I’m impossible to defeat because I am so truly blessed.”

“Physically, I’m good,” he continued. “I’m a little banged up. I got punched in the ear and ripped it open. Hats off to Mauricio Ruffy. He was a tough puzzle to solve, to get going in there. He’s long, he’s fast, he’s accurate, he’s a good striker. He landed the shots that ended the fight, so here we are. But as I said, we’re happy, we’re healthy, we’re hard to kill.”

Chandler has been stopped in three of his last four defeats. In his current skid, he’s fallen to Ruffy, Paddy Pimblett, Charles Oliveira, and Dustin Poirier. While Chandler entered the UFC roster with a pro MMA record of 22-5, he has gone 2-6 fighting for the top combat sports promotion.

Top-ranked UFC lightweight Arman Tsarukyan told Ariel Helwani that Chandler should be cut from the UFC roster. Chandler has a strong relationship with the UFC brass, and some believe that he might be talked into retirement before getting a pink slip unless he truly wants to keep fighting.
