Daniel Cormier continues the war of words with Yoel Romero

By Drake Riggs - July 12, 2018

Whether or not the new two-division champion of the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, Daniel Cormier is actually wanting to set up a fight with Yoel Romero…he sure is by continuing the back and forth with the top-ranked middleweight.

After Romero’s announcement through his manager, Malki Kawa that he will be looking to jump up in weight classes following his second loss to middleweight champ Robert Whittaker, the Cuban targetted the 205-pound king.

Taking to Twitter yesterday, Romero fired the first call out shots of his own at Cormier by congratulating him and asking to give the people what they want in New York.

This led to a response from Cormier later that day where he would shut Romero down by saying, “Here’s the deal…” Cormier started, “I never wrestled Yoel Romero, but in wrestling, he probably would have served me up. He’s one of the great wrestlers of all-time. But, you don’t fail a class and then get moved up a grade to the next one.”

Today Romero would fire back with a sizzling counter before Cormier did so himself.

Hey @yoelromeroMMA here’s the difference between you and me: You’ve missed weight in your last two fights and I’ve won two belts in my last two fights. You’re also 0-2 in your last two title fights, boi #keepdreaming. And hey, get Malki off your Twitter. It’s embarrassing.

Cormier of course just this past Saturday made history when he defeated Stipe Miocic to become the new UFC heavyweight champion.

Despite holding two titles now, Cormier doesn’t want to lose one by getting stripped so he is indeed open to defending the light heavyweight crown which is something he last did in January against Volkan Oezdemir.

Although Cormier doesn’t seem too interested in facing Romero, he has said that he has interest in facing a former champion in Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.

Shogun competes on the 22nd of this month against Anthony Smith in UFC Hamburg’s main event.
