Daniel Cormier calls for Tom Aspinall and UFC to straighten things out: “They need to get on the same page”

Daniel Cormier is attempting to play mediator in the midst of issues between Tom Aspinall and the UFC brass.
Aspinall is the main UFC Heavyweight Champion, but he’s been out of action since suffering a double eye poke back in Oct. 2025. Aspinall’s title defense against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 was ruled a no contest when the champion had difficulty seeing. An interim championship fight between Gane and Alex Pereira will be taking place at UFC Freedom 250 on Sunday.
The issues with UFC began once Dana White spoke to reporters in the aftermath of Aspinall’s injury. The titleholder believed White dismissed his injury and treated it as if he had a choice to continue fighting Gane or not. Aspinall had to get multiple surgeries to correct his eye problems.
Chatting with reporters at a media scrum, Cormier express his desire to see both sides come to an understanding (h/t MMAJunkie).
“We need Tom Aspinall on the same page as the UFC because this is where the best heavyweights in the world fight,” Cormier said. “And Tom Aspinall is one of the best heavyweights – Tom Aspinall is the best heavyweight in the world because he’s the world champion, and you want the world champion fighting.
“So yeah, it’s very important for Tom Aspinall and the UFC to get on the same page, and I can’t wait for it because every time Tom Aspinall fights, it’s amazing, and it’s fun, and he’s just a beast. To have a new interim champion after this weekend, who will take all of that shine from headlining, co-headlining the White House, it would be an amazing time to watch. So yeah, they need to get on the same page.”
White recently revealed that the original plan was to have Aspinall and Pereira fight for the undisputed UFC Heavyweight Championship. Aspinall’s eyes didn’t heal in time to get cleared for the bout, so Gane has stepped in for the interim title bout. “Poatan” has made it clear that if he defeats Gane this weekend, he wants to fight again quickly whether Aspinall is ready or not.
