Dana White reveals the issue with hosting a UFC card in Hawaii

With Max Holloway the new undisputed UFC featherweight champion of the world, the Waianae native is more adamant than ever to have the UFC put on an event in Hawaii. Both Holloway and Makaha’s Yancy Medeiros found success in Brazil at UFC 212 and were greeted back home by a group of fans when they arrived at the airport in Honolulu, Hawaii.

When the UFC was purchased by WME-IMG in the summer of 2016, there was widespread wonder as to the fate of company staples like Mike Golberg, Joe Rogan, and UFC President Dana White. Goldberg, as we now know, was let go by the promotion, and ultimately landed in Bellator. Rogan, meanwhile, seems to be staying put for the moment. White, however, didn’t give much indication as to how much longer he planned on staying with the promotion.

Dana White doesn't think Nick Diaz will ever fight again

MMA veteran Nick Diaz has remained one of the most popular fighters in MMA despite the fact that he hasn’t fought in nearly three years. After his dominant run in Strikeforce, Diaz signed with the UFC and made his debut in 2011, when he defeated BJ Penn via unanimous decision. Diaz then dropped his next two fights, an interim welterweight scrap with Carlos Condit, and a unanimous decision to Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title. In his most recent fight, Diaz stepped into the Octagon against Anderson Silva in a highly anticipated showdown which was eventually deemed a ‘no contest’ as a result of drug testing failures for both men. As it turns out, UFC President Dana White believes that very well may have been Diaz’ last fight. He spoke to MMAJunkie:

Last night, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 112 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, ranked UFC lightweights Kevin Lee and Michael Chiesa collided in an anticipated grudge match. This clash of grappling specialists was a fun one while it lasted. Unfortunately, the end of the fight was shadowed in controversy. As the seconds fell off the clock in the first round, Lee took Chiesa’s back and locked up a rear-naked choke. Though the choke looked deep, referee Mario Yamasaki stopped it before any tap actually occurred. This meant a win on Lee’s record, but one with a definite asterisk attached.

A fan told me he bought tix already. I want ALL fans to know that we have not even come up with a price for tix yet and tix ARE NOT for sale yet. Oscar De La Hoya rips "disrespectful" Dana White

While the majority of the combat sports community was thrilled to hear that a boxing match between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather had been finalized for August 26th, Oscar De La Hoya was not. While De La Hoya wrote a lengthy letter in an attempt to prevent the fight from ever happening, he has now shifted gears and is expressing his frustration with UFC President Dana White for booking the McGregor-Mayweather fight just weeks before Golden Boy Promotions has their middleweight title fight between Canelo Alvarez and GGG at the same arena as McGregor vs. Mayweather.

The fight is likely to go down as the biggest in the history of combat sports, and it is sure to make all parties involved much, much richer. While McGregor is certain to make a fortune for this fight. he is likely to have a very difficult time winning it. Mayweather, after all, is 49-0 as a pro boxer, while McGregor has never competed professionally in the boxing ring.

It has now been made official. Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will fight in the boxing ring this August 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Yet according to UFC President Dana White, who was heavily involved in the negotiation process for this massive mega fight, the initial reports of this unprecedented crossover fight got the venue wrong. The fight will not occur at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, but at Las Vegas’ new T-Mobile Arena. White made this announcement during a Wednesday evening appearance on SportsCenter.

UFC President Dana White is buying up a good part of his fancy Tournament Hills neighborhood in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to a report from the Las Vegas Review Journal, the UFC boss has purchased three mansions since October of last year that are very close to his mansion that he has had since 2006. The new properties that White picked up include “a roughly 7,700-square-foot house for just under $1.8 million in October, a 5,500-square-foot home for $2.4 million in January and a nearly 4,700-square-foot house for $2 million in March, county records indicate.”

Earlier this year, it was revealed that former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre would be returning to the Octagon to fight UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in a highly anticipated showdown for Bisping’s middleweight title. While the fight was never actually formalized, Bisping and St-Pierre both appeared on stage at a press conference in Las Vegas where they talked nothing but trash for the duration of the event.

Several weeks ago news emerged that UFC President Dana White was able to secure Conor McGregor‘s side of a deal for a potential boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. White then revealed that with McGregor’s side of the deal done, he would now move to negotiating with Floyd Mayweather’s team. Since then, there have been no further updates regarding the status of a potential McGregor-Mayweather showdown. With that being said however, UFC President Dana White recently spoke to the press in New York to reveal that while the percentages haven’t been discussed, he is confident that a deal will be reached. Several weeks ago, fight fans were made aware of a back injury sustained by UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt. As a result of the back injury, Garbrandt will be unable to defend his bantamweight title against TJ Dillashaw this summer. As a result, UFC President Dana White informed fans that Dillashaw will be dropping down to flyweight to challenge UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson for the flyweight championship in a fight which could see Johnson break the UFC record for most consecutive title defenses. With that being said however, the champ seems to want no part of a flyweight showdown with TJ Dillashaw, explaining that it isn’t fair for the former bantamweight champ to cut the line at 125 pounds.
