Luke Rockhold slams Dana White: Think before you run your mouth
Tom Taylor - May 16, 2017
When it was announced earlier this year that the next shot at Michael Bisping’s middleweight title would go to former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre – a man riding a multi-year layoff with no experience in the division – there was widespread backlash. While much of this backlash came from the fans, the most visible responses to the news came from Bisping and St-Pierre’s fellow fighters. And of all the fighters to sound off against this strange title fight, it’s possible that none were as vocal as former champ Luke Rockhold. “Our division is hot right now, they’ve got good matchups, but they’re just not putting the champion to work,” Rockhold said on a recent episode of The MMA Hour. “It’s ridiculous. Are they really going to wait until October to make the Georges St-Pierre fight?”

Scott Hernandez - May 13, 2017
Early in 2017, it was announced that former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre would be returning to the Octagon for a highly anticipated showdown with UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. While no date was given for the bout, the UFC held a press conference for the scrap, pending an official fight date. Ultimately, Bisping got fed up waiting for the former welterweight champ, and informed Georges St-Pierre that if he wasn’t prepared to fight in July, he would give the middleweight title shot to Yoel Romero. St-Pierre fired back with a video of his own, informing the champ that he would be ready to fight any time after October.

Former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva, and the UFC brass are currently engaged in a rather public dispute regarding Silva’s next fight. After snapping a two fight skid that saw ‘The Spider’ lose a controversial decision to Michael Bisping, before then dropping a unanimous decision to Daniel Cormier on just 48 hours notice, Silva demanded the UFC create an interim middleweight title for he and Yoel Romero to fight for while Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre fought for the undisputed belt.
Dana White gives Conor McGregor very short cutoff date to agree on Mayweather fight terms
Russell Ess - May 11, 2017
It seems like Dana White is getting tired of the talk regarding a few of his star fighters and just wants to get down to business. Just a day after announcing that the Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre UFC middleweight title fight was no longer going to happen with St-Pierre not being timely prepared, the UFC boss is giving UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor just a few days to come to terms on the potential boxing match against Floyd Mayweather.

Former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva returned to the win column this year as he picked up a decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208. Following the win, Anderson Silva was slated to fight streaking middleweight Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 211. Unfortunately for Silva, Gastelum was pulled from the fight after failing a USADA-administered drug test for marijuana metabolites. The former champ was left without an opponent for the scrap, and while the UFC looked to find him a replacement, they were unable to do so in time.

Al Iaquinta: Dana White has done a lot for this sport but he hasn’t got one injury from this sport
Tom Taylor - April 24, 2017
Though Al Iaquinta made a successful return to the Octagon last weekend, clobbering a durable Diego Sanchez to a first-round KO, the issues that kept him out of the cage for the previous two years are still festering in his mind. Chief among these issues is the way he is treated, and paid by the UFC. On Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, a fired up Iaquinta explained that he has a particularly difficult time swallowing the UFC’s modest pay of fighters, while the promotion is so hesitant to cover its fighter’s costs when they get hurt. “The UFC has done nothing for me,” he told host Ariel Helwani. “They left me high and dry [when I was injured]. I had to beg them for freakin’ knee surgery. Their doctor said I would never fight again if I had the knee surgery I wanted. Two nights ago I got in the cage.” “They told me I would never fight again if I had the surgery I wanted to have,” he elaborated. “I did all the research. I did. All day, I would wake up in the morning and I was on the computer all day doing research about knees. I could freakin’ do a knee surgery myself at this point. And they told me I would never fight. They wanted to send me out and get stem cell injections, take six weeks out of my life – six months really – and they wanted to try stem cell. I said ‘it’s proven it doesn’t work. Why are we doing this. You’re wasting my time.’ They said ‘well, we want to give it a shot before we pay $60,000 for a surgery.’ $60,000 for a surgery is nothing to you, and you’re going to cry? They only wanted to pay $15,000. A normal surgery at a normal hospital would have cost $15,000, but because I wanted to go to a good hospital, a hospital with a special surgery and the best doctor in the world – I wanted that – they said ‘oh it’s $60,000. We’re gonna pay for the regular [$15,000], you’ve gotta make up the rest.’ I said ‘I can’t make up the rest, are you fucking kidding me? How? How am I going to do that? I was going to say, ‘listen, pay for the surgery and take it out of my next purse when I fight again.’ I couldn’t freakin’ shell out money for a surgery. Go fuck yourself.”
