With the once laughed at boxing match between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather seeming more likely that it will actually happen, some purists are split on the matchup that some think is all about the money.
Boxing legend turned promoter Oscar De La Hoya recently released a lengthy statement on social media, urging fans to not buy into the matchup that will give the sport of boxing another black eye.
UFC President Dana White is playing a major role in making the fight between McGregor and Mayweather happen as McGregor is under contract with the UFC. White, who says he has always had a good relationship with De La Hoya, released a video of the Golden Boy boxing promoter contradicting himself and addressed it with TMZ.

“He’s talking about money grabs,” White said. “Canelo-Chavez? You know what I mean? You’re gonna put on a fight like that and call McGregor-Mayweather a money grab when you were trying to make that fight four months ago? Right? It’s crazy.”
“It makes it sound like he has no confidence whatsoever in GGG versus Canelo, which I have come out and said publically is a good fight. Right? I like the fight. I’ll watch the fight. He seems completely insecure and it’s one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. And, talk about two-faced and contradicting and the list goes on and on hating, and just — like he has no confidence in his fight.”
What are your thoughts on Oscar De La Hoya’s beef with the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor boxing match?
A lot can change in a few months. Remember when Dana White said the fight he is currently setting up would never happen?
