Rafael Dos Anjos and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone Have Both Picked McGregor to Beat Alvarez at UFC 205

There are now less than 10 days between us and the landmark UFC 205, which will mark the UFC’s long awaited debut in glimmering New York City, New York.

The card will be headlined by a massive, lightweight title fight between divisional kingpin Eddie Alvarez and current featherweight champion Conor McGregor. If McGregor emerges the victor in this fight, he’ll become the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes concurrently.

In advance of this potentially history making showdown, it’s very hard to confidently predict a winner, as both men seem to have very clear paths to victory. McGregor, for example, could very easily finish things off with the kind of brilliantly timed left hook he used to put down previous opponents like Jose Aldo and Dustin Poirier. Alvarez, meanwhile, could easily earn the victory by leaning on his bottomless gas tank and dragging McGregor into the later rounds, where he’s tired in the past.

The moment you feel confident that one man will win, you remember that the other possesses precisely the skill set to completely deflate your prediction.

Despite how difficult to call this fight is, pretty much every fighter in the game has been asked to offer a prediction for it. Two of the latest fighters asked for these predictions are fan favorite welterweight Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos. The two fighters made their predictions on the latest episode of UFC Tonight, and though their shared distaste for McGregor makes it somewhat surprising, both predicted the Irishman would leave New York City with a new belt around his waist.

The opinions of Dos Anjos and Cerrone are particularly interesting, as they’ve both fought Alvarez in the past. Dos Anjos, of course, is the man Alvarez won the title from back in June. Cerrone, meanwhile, defeated Alvarez in his UFC debut, outgunning the former Bellator champion to a unanimous decision victory.

Dos Anjos and Cerrone both have fights in the very near future. Dos Anjos will look to rebound from his loss to Alvarez this weekend, when he takes on the streaking Tony Ferguson in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Mexico. Cerrone, meanwhile, will join McGregor and Alvarez on the UFC 205 main card, where he’ll take on TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum.

Do you agree with Dos Anjos and Cerrone’s predictions for UFC 205? Sound off, PENN Nation!
