Following McGregor’s historic UFC 205 win over Eddie Alvarez to claim the lightweight championship, McGregor revealed that his big announcement was his girlfriend, Dee Devlin’s pregnancy. The ‘Notorious’ admitted that he was nervous about fatherhood, and bringing a child into a life of superstardom. McGregor also revealed that with the new UFC owners now steering the ship, he would like to receive equity in the promotion if the new WME-IMG owners would like him to continue fighting. Despite his layoff, McGregor’s name has continued to make headlines for his rumored involvement in a potential Floyd Mayweather superfight. While no deal has been made official yet, reports have continued to surface that indicate negotiations are ongoing, and a deal, while still far off, could potentially be reached.

Throughout the course of 2017, reports have continued to surface that UFC superstar Conor McGregor and undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather were progressing closer and closer to eventually having a McGregor-Mayweather superfight. Mayweather started the year by offering McGregor $15 million for a boxing match, which UFC President Dana White was quick to counter with an offer of his own, offering the undefeated prizefighter $25 million to have a boxing match with Mayweather. Mayweather was quick to laugh off the offer, reiterating that he wouldn’t fight for less than $100 million. McGregor initially remained silent on the matter before revealing in a pay-per view interview that he and Mayweather must sit down in the same room to negotiate if they hope to see the fight become official.

To kick off the year, Mayweather offered McGregor $15 million for a boxing match, which resulted in UFC President Dana White firing back with a counteroffer, stating that he would be willing to give Mayweather $25 million for a boxing match. Mayweather of course laughed at White’s offer, and called the UFC President a comedian. This was following by a pay-per view interview from McGregor, where the lightweight champ stated that he and Mayweather needed to sit down in a room and negotiate terms for a fight. Just weeks following McGregor’s interview, reports surfaced that Mayweather and McGregor had reportedly reached a deal.
