Thursday evening, news broke that former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger Chael Sonnen had ended his retirement, and signed an exclusive multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA. No immediate word was given in regress to when Sonnen would be making his Bellator MMA debut, however ‘The American Gangster’ was campaigning for a fight with former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. Ortiz, who is coming off a submission loss to Liam McGeery for the Bellator light heavyweight championship, has been away from the cage for nearly a year after having his 2-fight win streak snapped since moving to Bellator.

Thursday evening, it was announced that former UfC title challenger Chael Sonnen had officially ended his retirement, and signed an exclusive multi-fight contract with Bellator MMA. At the time of the announcement, there had been no word given as to when Sonnen would be making his Bellator MMA debut, however it was revealed that Sonnen was campaigning for a fight with former UFC champion Tito Ortiz, who is coming off a failed bid at the Bellator MMA light heavyweight championship which saw him get submitted by Liam McGeery.

Sonnen, who recently celebrated the end of his 2-year suspension, remained adamant over the course of the last 2 years that he is indeed retired. In just over 24 hours, the world will tune in as former WWE champion CM Punk makes his highly anticipated MMA debut on the main card of UFC 203 as he fights undefeated Mickey Gall. Ahead of the fight, as more footage has continued to emerge of Punk in training, some of the MMA community believes that the 37 year old Chicago native will be in for a rough time. Despite that, Punk’s head coach, Duke Roufus, has explained that a major key for Punk going into the fight is the fact that he is an enigma, and Mickey Gall doesn’t have any new footage of Punk to study.

News surfaced earlier this week that Sonnen’s daughter was born 10 weeks premature as a result of a listeria infection contracted by Sonnen’s wife Brittney from eating food contaminated with the bacteria. The former title challenger released a statement regarding the situation saying that his daughter was “in a battle”, however just 4 days later she passed away.

Following his suspension for testing positive for multiple banned substances, Sonnen said that prior to taking the drug tests with USADA, he wasn’t even sure if he would pass the tests.
