UFC 242 bonuses: Khabib Nurmagomedov, Belal Muhammad among bonus winners

The UFC announced the bonus winners following the conclusion of UFC 242, and Khabib Nurmagomedov was among those collecting a $50,000 bonus check. Nurmagomedov finished Dustin Poirier in the third round of the main event to improve to 28-0 in his MMA career. Unsurprisingly, he won a bonus award for Performance of the Night for his vicious rear-naked choke finish of Poirier.

The return of Phil “CM Punk” Brooks is practically upon us. It’s been two years since we saw the ex-professional wrestler make his ‘intriguing’ debut at UFC 203 in Cleveland, Ohio. Unfortunately for CM Punk, it went about as poorly as it possibly could have. Charging straightforward at his opponent, Mickey Gall, CM Punk would get taken down almost immediately and lose the fight via first-round submission by way of rear naked choke without ever landing a single punch.

Last night, the UFC returned to Sydney, Australia with an exciting, 13-fight event. One of the big winners of the event was main card welterweight fighter Belal Muhammad, who took out dangerous veteran Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means via split decision. In the moments after this win, which stands out as one of the best of his career, Muhammad took an opportunity to call out red hot welterweight contender Colby Covington. Covington has recently made headlines not only for his big October win over Demian Maia, but also for his controversial comments on Brazil and its people. In the eyes of Belal Muhammad, those comments are not ok.

Last weekend, in the co-main event of the UFC’s anticipated stop in Pittsburgh, PA, rapidly rising welterweight “Platinum” Mike Perry returned to the Octagon. Originally, the welterweight star was expected to battle former UFC welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves. Unfortunately, however, Alves was forced out of the competition thanks to Hurricane Irma’s effects on Florida. He was replaced by promotional newcomer Alex Reyes.

Randy Brown will be fighting at UFC 208 after the UFC was able to find him a replacement opponent. Palestine’s Belal Muhammad has stepped up and will now fight Brown at UFC 208. After Randy Brown’s original opponent George Sullivan was pulled from UFC 208 due to USADA violation, it seemed all hope was lost for Brown when it came to UFC 208.
