When Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov step into the cage together at UFC 229, most fans expect one of two things to happen. The expectation is that McGregor will either knock Nurmagomedov out, our Nurmagomedov will drag McGregor into a grappling hell and possibly stop him on the mat. This feeling, of course, hinges on the perception that Nurmagomedov is not much of a striker, and McGregor is not much of a grappler. While Conor McGregor’s chief training partner Artem Lobov agrees that Khabib Nurmagomedov doesn’t present much danger in the striking department, he feels its erroneous to assume that McGregor can’t grapple with the lightweight champion.

UFC featherweight Artem Lobov (13-14-1 MMA) will reportedly be making his return to the octagon at October’s UFC Fight Night 138 event in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. According to Red Furry MMA, “The Russian Hammer” will take on Zubaira Tukhugov (18-4 MMA) at the October 27 event.

Shortly after Conor McGregor and his entourage caused a scene of absolute mayhem at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY, (watch that here) reports began to surface that the Irish star had been arrested. Apparently, these reports were premature, as McGregor is not yet in custody. Artem Lobov, meanwhile, who is one of McGregor’s main training partners, and a key player in today’s fracas, has been removed from his UFC 223 undercard fight with Alex Caceres.

Sure, he’s experienced some tough losses of late, but his going five rounds with Cub Swanson is proof enough that he is absolutely no slouch. Lobov’s professional record, of course, would suggest otherwise. The Russian-born Irishman has actually lost more times than he’s won, as he currently sits at 13-14-1 overall.

No matter how many wins or losses on his record, he is letting everyone know that will never be him. “The UFC is full of beggars. They’re all beggars. You need to be a go-getter. You need to go and get it. You need to go and make changes and go after what you want. All these guys they beg for everything. When they want more money, they don’t how else to go about it. They say, ‘Oh please pay me more, you’re not paying me enough’. What kind of attitude is that? I hate people like that. I never want to be a guy like that and I never will be. I went out there, I reached out to other organizations and said I could potentially be getting cut, I’m not yet but I could be, what are the offers, what are the options?”

Last week, there was a tsunami that crashed through MMA media, all caused by a little blurb that Conor McGregor said in which most people didn’t even believe to be true. The word was that he offered to step in to fight Frankie Edgar at UFC 222. While all sites started rushing to get out their news, Edgar’s manager Ali Abdel-Aziz and coach Mark Henry were loading up more material. Aziz brought up an alleged request by McGregor for a new 165 title, which Artem Lobov seemed to just confirm. “[We were] very close [to going to UFC 222 to fight Frankie Edgar for 165-pound ittle]. Very, very close. It was real, 100-percent. Conor was ready to go, that was it, we were gathering the troops already, we were ready to go. Were planning what we were going to do; we were just going to fly out to Vegas straightaway to do this short little camp.”

The Russian-born Irishman is set to battle Alex Caceres in an intriguing featherweight bout on the card. The earliest reports of this bout came from The Mac Life.
