Antonio Rogerio Nogueira says Shogun Rua trilogy will be his 'farewell fight'

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira expects to end his legendary career at UFC 250 when he has his trilogy fight against Shogun Rua. Nogueira hasn’t fought since he was knocked out by Ryan Spann back at UFC 237. The 43-year-old Brazilian legend is just 4-6 in his last 10, so he says this fight against Rua will be his farewell fight.

Spann won his UFC debut by unanimous decision against Luis Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira. Following the fight, the Fortis MMA product wanted to fight “Lil Nog” and asked for the fight — something not many people do. The reason he wanted the fight is simple.

Last weekend, on the main card of UFC Sao Paulo, 42-year-old MMA legend Antonio Rogerio Nogueira stepped into the Octagon for the first time in two years, having been sidelined by a lengthy United States Anti-Doping Agency suspension. His opponent in this return to action was brick-fisted 32-year-old Sam Alvey.  Given the circumstances of this matchup, many fans seemed to count Antonio Rogerio Nogueira out against Sam Alvey — and understandably so. The odds seemed to be stacked against him.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira promises legal action after USADA violation

If things had gone according to plan, Brazilian MMA legend Antonio Rogerio Nogueira would still be gearing up for a fight with Jared Cannonier at UFC on Fox 26 this December. Regrettably, the 41-year-old fighter was notified of a USADA violation, having tested positive for a banned diuretic. After attempting to defend his innocence on social media, Nogueira is now assuring he’ll also pursue legal action, though he hasn”t specified if this action will be against USADA or another party.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira flagged for potential Anti-Doping Policy violation

Another big name from mixed martial arts has been flagged for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is the latest fighter in the UFC to be flagged by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for a potential violation. “Minotouro” was scheduled to fight Jared Cannonier at UFC on FOX 26 in Winnipeg, Canada on December 16 and has since been pulled from the fight.

On November 19, the UFC will promote its 100th Fight Night card. This card will emanate from the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in beautiful Sao Paolo, Brazil. Initially, the card was expected to be headlined by a light heavyweight showdown between Swedish contender Alexander Gustafsson and Brazilian veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. When Gustafsson withdrew from the bout with a lingering back injury, however, Nogueira was reassigned to a bout with long-time contender Ryan Bader.
