Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will step up on short notice to oppose one of the greatest UFC lightweights.

Former UFC champion Aljamain Sterling is back in a title mix since making the full-time move from bantamweight to featherweight. Sterling, who has earned recent wins over Brian Ortega and Calvin Kattar, is knocking on the door of a potential title shot with one more victory on his resume.

In the meantime, Sterling is keeping busy with his various media appearances and training to get back into the Octagon. As of this writing, an exact date for Sterling’s next fight in the featherweight division has not been proposed, but details are expected to be shared by the matchmakers in the coming weeks.

Before Sterling made the full-time move to MMA, he was an accomplished wrestler at Uniondale High School in New York, a skillset he’s used throughout his professional fighting career. As Sterling waits for his next UFC assignment, he’ll take a days’ notice gamble against a former UFC lightweight champion.

Aljamain Sterling steps up to face Benson Henderson at Real American Freestyle 6

As announced by Real American Freestyle, Sterling will fill in for the injured Chad Mendes against Benson Henderson at RAF 6 later this week. This will be Sterling’s RAF debut on a card headlined by his former UFC rival, Henry Cejudo.

Sterling is the latest high-profile UFC standout to make an appearance in RAF, joining the likes of Colby Covington, Luke Rockhold, and Michael Chandler. Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones have teased a potential clash in a trilogy bout on the mats.

If Sterling is successful against Henderson, expect Sterling to appear in more RAF events in the future. Henderson retired from MMA following a loss to Usman Nurmagomedov at Bellator 292.
