Boxing legend turned promoter, Oscar De La Hoya has been one that went as far as to ask fans to not buy into the “circus” matchup, even after campaigning for a McGregor vs. Golden Boy Promotions boxer Canelo Alvarez.

Earlier this week, rumors began to surface surrounding a potential date and location for the much discussed boxing mega fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, and undefeated boxing star Floyd Mayweather. According to these rumors, the fight is being targeted for August 26, at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena – not the new T-Mobile Arena. Speaking to Helen Yee, Mayweather’s uncle Jeff Mayweather, and one of his proteges Kevin Newman weighed in on these rumors. While neither was willing to confirm or deny thee rumors, both seemed to think they made sense.

Several weeks ago news emerged that UFC President Dana White was able to secure Conor McGregor‘s side of a deal for a potential boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. White then revealed that with McGregor’s side of the deal done, he would now move to negotiating with Floyd Mayweather’s team. Since then, there have been no further updates regarding the status of a potential McGregor-Mayweather showdown. With that being said however, UFC President Dana White recently spoke to the press in New York to reveal that while the percentages haven’t been discussed, he is confident that a deal will be reached. Now, UFC President Dana White awaits for Mayweather and his team to agree to terms and sign off on their end of the deal. With Mayweather promoting his world champion fighter Gervonta Davis over the weekend in the title boxing match against Liam Walsh, a lot of buzz still surrounded Mayweather’s anticipated return to the boxing ring. Mayweather was asked in the ring following Davis’ third round TKO win, what the chances are that he and Conor McGregor will actually fight. Mayweather replied that he thinks the fight will happen and would like to have his young star fighters on the undercard.

According to UFC President Dana White, the much discussed boxing mega fight between UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor and undefeated boxing great Floyd Mayweather could take a big step towards fruition today. Speaking to the media at the UFC 211 post-fight press conference, the UFC boss explained that he hopes to have McGregor’s side of the deal finalized today (Sunday). “We’re right there,” White told the media (via MMAFighting.com). “I’m expecting an executed agreement tomorrow, and then I’ll start working with Team Mayweather next week.”

Nate Diaz has not fought since August of last year when he and Conor McGregor clashed in their thrilling rematch at UFC 202. Although it was a close fight after five rounds of war, McGregor walked out of the Octagon with a majority decision win. Diaz has been sitting on the sidelines since his two huge paydays with fighting McGregor and is simply waiting for another fight that will be worth it for him to step back into the Octagon. Diaz stated that he accepted a fight against Tony Ferguson on certain conditions but never ever heard back from the UFC following his counter in negotiation. With all the talk of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match, perhaps the winner of that mega fight is the one Diaz is waiting to cash in on.
