The odds of Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor fighting in the boxing ring seem to be getting closer and closer to actually becoming a reality.
Conor McGregor has agreed to his terms for the fight with UFC President Dana White, as “The Notorious” is under contract with the UFC. Now, White is negotiating with Floyd Mayweather and his team on the terms of the boxing match and will look to lock the fight in.
With Mayweather being an undefeated 49-0 boxing legend and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor not having a single professional boxing match under his name, odds opened up in big favor of Mayweather. BJPenn.com reported in February that Jeff Sherman, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook Manager, tweeted that the Westgate Resort and Casino in Las Vegas was accepting bets for the fight that has yet to be made official. McGregor was a big underdog at +1100 while Mayweather was the favorite at -2500. Sherman noted that the fight “must take place by 5/31/2018.”
As more places have opened up with taking bets, the line for Mayweather vs. McGregor is moving much closer. Bovada had their odds via Odds Shark for the fight on Thursday with Mayweather still a heavy favorite but nowhere near where the lines opened at -750 while McGregor still a big underdog at +475. This means that you could have to bet $750 on Floyd Mayweather to win $100 or bet $100 on Conor McGregor to win $475.
Given that Conor McGregor has never had a single professional boxing match in his life, the odds go to show just how much people believe in McGregor. Oddsmakers opened up with giving “The Notorious” a better shot at beating Mayweather than they did Andre Berto, who is an Olympian and former world champion.
