Khabib Nurmagomedov’s strategy in the first round was clear: Keep charging forward and then use the fence to your advantage in landing takedowns. Nurmagomedov controlled the center of the octagon and marched forward with a flurry of blocked strikes until Dos Anjos’ back was against the fence. That’s when Nurmagomedov would dip down and use brute strength to take Dos Anjos to the ground.

This started out as a classic ‘Grappler vs. Striker’ bout. When Pat Healy was given the opportunity to take the fight to the ground he did and he excelled. Whenever the bout was in the center of the octagon, it was not close at all. Jorge Masvidal was able to pick apart Healy opponent with strikes which likely gave him the nod from the judges for the decision.

Misrad Bektic impressed in the first five minutes despite being the smaller fighter. He was able to get inside a comfortable striking distance of Skeller and gave him some trouble while standing. When the fight went to the ground, Bektic stayed active in Skelly’s guard. He utilized great posture to surprise Skelly with elbows and punches from different angles.

UFC legend BJ Penn made his return to The Ultimate Fighter this past Wednesday. Penn, who is coaching against Frankie Edgar on TUF: 19, was a coach on the shows 5th season back in 2007. The former UFC welterweight and lightweight champion recently spoke about this seasons premiere episode and how he felt about returning to TUF, “It really does feel like déjà vu or something like that, either way I’m enjoying it.”

He talked to me that night after the fight and said that he had never felt so close to death and that the shots he took to the body were unbelievable. After that fight, he is a completely different person now. He is more motivated. I don’t know if that showed him that he really belongs in the upper echelon of the [heavyweight] division or that he should be the champion, but he is a different guy.”
