UFC 325 winner Alexander Volkanovski explains why he thinks Movsar Evloev would beat Lerone Murphy

If Movsar Evloev vs. Lerone Murphy is the plan, then Alexander Volkanovski knows who he’d pick to win the fight.

Volkanovski is fresh off a successful featherweight title defense in a rematch against Diego Lopes at UFC 325. “The Great” scored another unanimous decision in front of a favorable crowd in Sydney. It was Volkanovski’s first successful title defense in his second reign as the UFC Featherweight Champion.

With Saturday’s event now in the past, Volkanovski is looking towards the future. He believes Evloev and Murphy are worthy title contenders. Volkanovski told reporters during the UFC 325 post-fight presser that he’s leaning towards Evloev winning a potential showdown with Murphy.

“Lerone Murphy got good footwork,” Volkanovski said. “He can fight the right fight. I just think Movsar ends up grabbing ahold of him. He’s going to be stronger. I think Movsar takes that, but it would be an interesting fight. If anyone can work a good game plan to keep him on the outside and make it hard for Movsar, Lerone can do that, but if I had to pick someone, it would probably be Movsar.”

Evoloev hasn’t fought since late 2024 when he defeated Aljamain Sterling in a competitive, but unanimous decision win. He missed all of 2025 and has yet to receive a world title opportunity.

As for Murphy, he pulled off a highlight reel knockout victory over Aaron Pico back in Aug. 2025. A matchup between Evloev and Murphy would make sense given the two are undefeated and the winner would become the clear No. 1 contender for Volkanovski’s gold.

Volkanovski has said that he’d prefer if his next title defense was against either Evloev or Murphy because they are the best contenders available. He also slammed the idea of Arman Tsarukyan or Jean Silva cutting the line. Tsarukyan has teased a possible move down to 145 pounds.
