Pros react to Gunnar Nelson vs Leon Edwards at UFC London

A welterweight contest featuring Gunnar Nelson taking on Leon Edwards served as the co-headliner of today’s UFC London event.

Leon Edwards

Leon Edwards entered today’s bout on a six-fight win streak, his latest being a decision victory over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone this past June in Singapore.

Meanwhile, Gunnar Nelson had most previously competed at December’s UFC 231 event in Toronto, where he scored a second round submission victory over Alex Oliveira.

Tonight’s contest was a tough and grueling fight for both men.

Leon Edwards was able to bust up the face of Gunnar Nelson by utilizing some elbows from the clinch.

After narrowly surviving round two, it appeared that “Gunni” was in need of a finish headed into the third and final round.

With just over a minute remaining in the fight, Nelson was able to score a takedown and move immediately to full mount. However, sixty-seconds was not enough to put away the tough British fighter, as Edwards survived Nelson’s late storm long enough to hear the final horn.

In the end, the judges ruled the fight in favor of Edwards by way of split-decision. The victory marked Leon’s seventh in a row and has him primed for a top contender in his next octagon appearance.
