Dana White thinks Kamaru Usman still has fight left despite UFC OKC loss: “He’s still got it”

Dana White doesn’t agree with those who are calling for Kamaru Usman to retire following UFC Oklahoma.

Usman made his second appearance in the middleweight division this past Saturday. He collided with former middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis inside the Paycom Center. Early on, du Plessis looked as sharp as he ever has. In the second stanza, “Stillknocks” blasted “The Nigerian Nightmare” with a knee that rocked him. While things looked dicey for Usman, he mounted a comeback effort late, but it wasn’t enough.

Du Plessis secured a unanimous decision win, and some have questioned if the 39-year-old Usman should hang up his gloves. During the UFC OKC post-fight press conference, White said he feels Usman still has some juice left in the tank (via MMAMania.com).

“I don’t know,” White said. “Obviously a great fight, fighting a much bigger guy, and he’s got a great chin. He’s still got it. It’s not like, ‘Oh, Usman’s done and he should retire.’ He had a great fight tonight. So I don’t know. He’s got to go home, rest, heal up, and figure out what’s next.”

Usman has gone 1-4 in his last five outings. The defeats have been at the hands of du Plessis, Khamzat Chimaev, and Leon Edwards twice. The lone victory in that stretch was against Joaquin Buckley back in June 2025.

In the aftermath of UFC OKC, Usman spoke to Daniel Cormier during his post-fight interview, and he didn’t commit to the weight class he will compete in next. “The Nigerian Nightmare” is keeping his options open, as he plans to take advantage of any opportunities regardless of the division.
