Tyron Woodley is no longer the UFC welterweight champion. After a truly impressive reign, the long-time champion was unseated in the co-main event of UFC 235 on Saturday night in Las Vegas, surrendering the title to ferocious challenger Kamaru Usman via unanimous decision loss. Ahead of this fight, Tyron Woodley repeatedly floated the idea of a future move to middleweight. His plan, he said, was defeat Usman and Colby Covington, and then head north in search of a second title.

Ben Askren was victorious in his UFC debut. Unfortunately, his win was shadowed in controversy. After being slammed on his head and pulverized by an early salvo of Lawler ground-and-pound, Askren was able to turn the tide, and drag his foe to the mat. Once on the canvas, he locked up a bulldog choke that seemed to turn the lights out on the former UFC welterweight champion.

On Saturday night, on the main card of UFC 235 in Las Vegas, Nevada, former ONE Championship and Bellator welterweight king Ben Askren finally made his UFC debut. The undefeated wrestler was matched up with former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler — and the fight nearly ended in disaster for him. Seconds into the first round, Askren shot in for a takedown. Lawler denied this attempt, hoisted Askren into the air, and whacked him back down to the canvas like he was trying to get a glob of peanut butter off a spoon.

Former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler welcomed Ben Askren to the octagon at tonight’s UFC 235 event in Las Vegas. Lawler entered the octagon for the first time since December of 2017, where he suffered a unanimous decision setback to Rafael dos Anjos.

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor paid tribute to both Jon Jones and Anthony Smith following their light heavyweight title fight at UFC 235. Jones defeated Smith via unanimous decision (48-44 x3) this evening in Las Vegas, thus reclaiming his UFC light heavyweight crown.

Garbrandt (11-2 MMA) was coming off back-to-back stoppage losses to former teammate turned bitter rival TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217 and UFC 227.
