Khamzat Chimaev laughs off Sean Strickland’s gun warning: “He is handling everything really well”

Khamzat Chimaev doesn’t appear to be pressed over Sean Strickland’s gun warning ahead of their UFC 328 title bout.
Strickland is known for making some off-the-wall comments, but some are concerned given his latest remark. Both Chimaev and Strickland have threatened to take things to the streets amid some heated trash talk. Strickland went as far as to say he would shoot Chimaev and his team if they attempted to jump him.
Chimaev’s coach Alan Nascimento revealed his fighter’s response to the threat when speaking to MMAFighting.
“When you’re prepared for something and you know it’s coming, it doesn’t surprise you anymore,” Nascimento said. “Khamzat Chimaev hadn’t even seen it. It was only this morning [Wednesday] that we showed him what Sean Strickland had been saying. He watched it, laughed, and we went straight to training. Khamzat Chimaev is handling everything really well. We’ve been talking about all of this for a long time, ever since the fight was starting to come together.”
Nascimento believes Strickland was out of line when he talked about shooting anybody because he doesn’t think the animosity will ever reach that point.
“That’s part of the game, right?” Nascimento said. “But this whole thing of ‘I’m going to shoot him’ and all that, I think that’s just nonsense. Nobody is going to take things to that level. It doesn’t make sense.”
Strickland is a proud gun owner and he’s been shown on video protecting his home. It reaches a new level when guns are mentioned during a buildup for a prizefight. That’s why the UFC brass is revving up security for media week ahead of May 9. Many are questioning if there will even be a staredown between Chimaev and Strickland.
