Jon Anik shares refreshing take on recent UFC events: “It hasn’t been a great few weeks”

Jon Anik admits he hasn’t exactly been moved by recent UFC shows.
While the top MMA promotion is currently enjoying financial success, some fans have grown frustrated with the product. The critics believe that the UFC brass are getting by with the bare minimum due to its success with live gates, and more specifically, the Paramount+ deal.
During a recent edition of the “Anik & Florian Podcast,” UFC’s top play-by-play man didn’t shy away from his belief that recent cards haven’t lived up to expectations (h/t MMAJunkie).
“I think a lot of people feel that way,” Anik said. “And even when you think about this UFC podcast, and largely I am a producer arm of this show, but we’re not talking about the co-main event. We’re not talking about (Christian Leroy Duncan’s) win over Roman Dolidze, even though Christian Leroy Duncan maybe deserves a minute or two, because it’s not largely compelling. Forty-one UFC live events times 13 fights – it’s 533 UFC fights a year, not to mention the Contender Series and everything else. It’s a lot to continuously ask to hit triples and home runs. …”
Anik is excited to call the action for UFC 327 in Miami on April 11. That card will feature a vacant light heavyweight title fight between Jiri Prochazka and Carlos Ulberg. The co-main event will see Joshua Van put the flyweight gold at stake against Tatsuro Taira.
Those are two matchups that have MMA fans salivating, but perhaps it isn’t the norm that most are hoping for in 2026.
“Sometimes there’s ebbs and flows, and I can’t wait to just scream through my f*cking neck at UFC 327 in a few weeks. I can have an honest conversation like this and tell you that I’m going to put my promotional best foot forward in a couple weeks. We have a tremendous card, and we’re going to blow it out, and I can’t wait for that. But, yeah, it hasn’t been a great few weeks to be sure.”
