Jailton Almeida speaks out on UFC release: ‘Humble, as I’ve always been’

Jailton Almeida is no longer a member of the UFC roster, and he has issued a statement.

Almeida was once a rising heavyweight and some believed he’d eventually get a title opportunity. He suffered a setback when he was knocked out by Curtis Blaydes back in 2024. Almeida got back on track with first-round finishes over Alexander Romanov and Serghei Spivac.

Uneventful decision losses to Alexander Volkov and Rizvan Kuniev ultimately led to Almeida’s UFC release. “Malhadinho” has taken to his Instagram account to release a video statement (via MMAFighting.com).

”Guys, I’m here to thank all of you who cheer for me, who celebrate with me, and who followed my journey in the UFC,” Almeida said in Portuguese. “I had 11 fights, 4 ‘Performance of the Night’ [bonuses], and I feel very fulfilled to be part of this organization. Thanks to the entire UFC staff, everyone who helped me and gave that support. Everyone was polite and treated me very well.”

Almeida plans to get back on the horse in his post-UFC stretch.

“It’s not these two losses that will define who I am,” Almeida said. “I’m a dedicated, focused, determined guy. Humble, as I’ve always been.”

Leonardo Pateira, Almeida’s manager, has revealed that his fighter received offers from multiple promotions following his UFC exit. Almeida promised to have some news soon and vowed, “I’ll be back on the scene again.”

The 34-year-old has amassed a pro MMA record of 22-5. He has earned 13 wins by submission and eight by knockout. His lone decision win was against Derrick Lewis back in Nov. 2023.

There is currently no word on which promotions are interested in Almeida. BJPenn.com will keep you posted on the latest regarding Almeida’s fighting future.
