For the longest time now fans have been waiting to see Islam Makhachev get a crack at the UFC lightweight championship and next month in Abu Dhabi, he’ll finally get the opportunity to wear gold for the first time.

Charles Oliveira isn’t officially the champion after missing weight in his last bout but even so, he’s widely considered to be the king of the 155-pound division.

The pair will collide in Abu Dhabi and with predictions from fans and pundits being all over the place, it’ll be intriguing to see what kind of match-up we get when they finally meet in the middle of the Octagon.

The UFC is already ramping up the promotion of this event and when reacting to a preview on social media, Makhachev made his intentions perfectly clear.

“First round warm up, second round drag him to deep water, third round get business done Inshallah Can’t wait for Oct 22”

It’s safe to say that Islam Makhachev has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. He’s always been viewed as the successor to his friend and training partner Khabib Nurmagomedov but when you take a look at his resume, it’s not hard to see that this is going to be his most difficult contest to date.

Oliveira has worked unbelievably hard to get to where he is and even though the odds are stacked against him, you can bet ‘Do Bronx’ isn’t going to go down without a fight.
