Brendan Allen goes off on ‘b****’ Dricus du Plessis: “I was told it was a done deal”

Brendan Allen is convinced that Dricus du Plessis doesn’t want the smoke.
Allen and du Plessis have been exchanging heated words over the past year, but a bout between the two has yet to materialize. While UFC has yet to make it official, rumors have been swirling of a middleweight clash between du Plessis and former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman on July 18. Meanwhile, the No. 4-ranked Allen will be facing unranked Edmen Shahbazyan at UFC Vegas 118 on Saturday.
During an interview with MMAFighting.com, Allen hurled an expletive at du Plessis over their planned bout falling apart.
“Because he’s a b****,” Allen said. “It was supposed to be a done deal in January. I was told it was a done deal. Me and Dricus was done and then they said he got hurt and he’s not fighting until July. And I was, at that time, it was supposed to be like around May that I was told that I would fight him. So I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to wait, who’s next?‘ Or maybe it was end of April, I don’t even know. I think it may have been end of April, some somewhere in April, yeah, because then it got moved to May, then they said he got hurt.
“But he posted training videos the next week, so I don’t know. I kind of think I was a little bit finessed, to be honest with you, and I don’t know by who.”
Allen is hoping to keep his momentum going after scoring a fourth-round TKO win over Reinier de Ridder back in Oct. 2025. While many expected him to face a top-ranked opponent instead of Shahbazyan, “The Golden Boy” has put together a three-fight winning streak, and he has a big opportunity this weekend.
