The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to the Apex for tonight’s UFC Vegas 116 event, a 13-bout fight card headlined by Aljamain Sterling vs. Youssef Zalal.

Sterling (25-5 MMA), the promotion‘s former bantamweight champion, will be returning to action for the first time since earning a unanimous decision victory over Brian Ortega this past August in Shanghai, China. Prior to that triumph, ‘Funk Master’ had dropped a decision loss to fellow 145lbs contender Movsar Evloev at UFC 310.

Meanwhile, Youssef Zalal (18-5-1 MMA) was most previously seen in action this past October, where he scored a first-round submission victory over Josh Emmett (see that here). ‘The Moroccan Devil’ has won eight fights in a row, with 7 of those 8 victories coming by stoppage.

UFC Vegas 116 is co-headlined by women’s bantamweight matchup featuring Norma Dumont taking on Joselyne Edwards.

Norma-Dumont

Dumont (13-2 MMA) most recently competed this past November, where she scored a split decision win over Ketlen Vieira. That victory marked Norma’s sixth in a row and has her in prime position for a future title shot with another win this evening.

Meanwhile, Joselyne Edwards (17-6 MMA) currently boasts a four-fight winning streak, with her most recent Octagon victory coming by way of submission over Nora Cornolle this past February. ‘La Pantera’ has earned all four of her most recent wins by way of stoppage (2 KO’s and 2 submissions).

Also featured on tonight’s UFC Vegas 116 main card lineup is a highly anticipated lightweight contest between Rafa Garcia and Alexander Hernandez.

Garcia (17-4 MMA) will enter the bout on a two-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming by way of TKO against Jared Gordon this past September in San Antonio. ‘Gifted’ has gone 4-1 over his past five Octagon appearances overall.

Meanwhile, Alexander Hernandez (18-8 MMA) currently boasts a four-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming via TKO over Carlos Diego Ferreira this past September. Prior to that triumph, ‘The Great’ had scored a first-round finish against Chase Hooper at UFC 319 (see that here).
