Just days ahead of UFC 217, Cody Garbrandt finally shared some long discussed footage that showed him dropping his UFC 217 opponent, TJ Dillashaw, in a training session from many years ago. Speaking on the most recent episode of BJ Penn Radio – just days after he knocked Garbrandt out to win the UFC bantamweight title – TJ Dillashaw discussed this infamous video. In his opinion, it’s just footage of one of his bad days – bad days every fighter occasionally has.

It’s no secret that Cody Garbrandt hits hard. …Really hard. If anyone knows it, it’s TJ Dillashaw. Of course, Dillashaw ended up knocking out Garbrandt and screaming in his face like a primal warrior, but no one expected that after the end of the first round. That’s because Dillashaw was on baby legs after a heat-seeking missile of a right hand. There’s no way to tell where it happened or if it was a problem even before their fight at UFC 217, but it looks like Garbrandt’s power was too much for his own hand. With his sizzling UFC 217 grudge match with Cody Garbrandt soundly in the rear-view mirror, UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is now hellbent on a flyweight showdown with iron-fisted division ruler Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. In his opinion, this champion versus champion showdown is simply too big not to happen. “I mean that’s the fight that needs to happen. It has to happen,” Dillashaw explained on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio. “I mean, it’s got fireworks written all over it. I’ve always said I wanna be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and that’s where he’s at. I’m setting my goals high. I’m chasing him down, you know? As well as him already denying the fight, and proving to be afraid of the fight. He was making all these other excuses, and then one of his excuses was that I need to be a champion. Well guess what? That’s done. You know what I mean? You have no more excuses. It’s time to get this thing on, and prove who the best is. You know, I can make the weight class very, very well. And I think I’m gonna be very strong, and too much for him, and he knows it. And it’s gonna be very nice for me to be the new best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.”

The UFC bantamweight title fight between Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw was an exciting back and forth battle at UFC 217. Round one ended with Garbrandt knocking down Dillashaw and had him wobbly while getting back on his feet. Dillashaw turned things right around in round two and knocked Garbrandt down twice, ending the fight following up with ground and pound after the second knockdown.

Even after all of the trash talk between Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw, the former friends and teammates were able to shake hands after their UFC 217 title fight. It was a close fight where Garbrandt could have possibly gotten the finish in the first round if there was a bit more time on the clock, dropping Dillashaw in the last seconds of the opening round. However, Dillashaw recovered well and dropped Garbradnt twice in the second round and got the finish.

Over the weekend, in the co-main event of the wickedly stacked UFC 217, arch rivals Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw finally stepped into the cage together for an anticipated bantamweight title fight. Despite a strong opening round from Garbrandt, Dillashaw ultimately sealed the deal in the second, putting his foe down with a blistering salvo, and capturing the UFC bantamweight title in the process. In the wake of this fight, Garbrandt quickly began campaigning for an immediate rematch.

Urijah Faber watched his former friend and teammate TJ Dillashaw knockout his star pupil Cody Garbrandt in the co-main event of UFC 217 last night in New York. After being rocked by “No Love” late in round one, Dillashaw was able to turn the tide with a big head kick in round two. Moments later TJ would drop Cody with a punch and then put Garbrandt away with some viscous ground and pound. (Watch the finish here).

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 217, estranged former teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw finally stepped into the cage to settle their score. It was a wild one while it lasted. Though Garbrandt very nearly knocked Dillashaw out in the closing seconds of the first frame, Dillashaw bounced back in the second, putting his foe down with a head kick to capture the bantamweight crown.

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 217, Cody Garbrandt sought to defend his title against his fiercest rival, TJ Dillashaw. Though he almost won in the first round, the iron-fisted Garbrandt ultimately found himself on the receiving end of a second-round knockout, relinquishing the title to Dillashaw in the process. TJ Dillashaw reclaimed the UFC bantamweight title at tonight’s UFC 217 event in New York defeating Cody Garbrandt via second-round knockout. Dillashaw was able to catch Cody with a big right hand that sent Garbrandt crashing to the canvas. From there Dillashaw would put Cody away with some brutal ground and pound. No more words need to be said about Cody Garbrandt’s upcoming fight with TJ Dillashaw. It’s amazing and it has everything you could ever want surrounding a fight. Rankings and a gold belt aside, these dudes have every reason on Earth to fight each other and we finally get to watch it happen. It seems like their peers are just as excited as the fans and all of to see these two scrap. Most of them also see Garbrandt walking out of Madison Square Garden with the UFC bantamweight title around his waist. “I’ve got ties to both of them, so it’s kind of hard. I’m going to go with Cody [Garbrandt] on that one. He’s got that thumper, boy. He’s got that thumper and he believes in it. It seems like this TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt feud has been going on forever. Since the beginning, we’ve gone through the Duane Ludwig controversy, the allegations of steroid use, Dillashaw injuring another Team Alpha Male member in training, but at the beginning of this year it was all about training footage. Garbrandt claimed he knocked out Dillashaw in training and threatened to release the tape. Dillashaw called Garbrandt’s bluff and after awhile, the talk stopped. That is, until now. Just days before the two settle their differences at UFC 217, Garbrandt drops the video. This guy is a liar he said I never koed him, that there is no video! Also that he has never took PEDs and he never cheap shotted a former teammate stealing his dream from under him! The UFC had one last press conference today to promote the year’s biggest card so far. With the cast of characters contained in the triple-title fights at UFC 217 gathered together three days from bell time, it was bound to get heated even before the staredowns. Cody Garbrandt has not been shy about saying all sorts of wild things about his opponent TJ Dillashaw throughout the build up, but something he said today at the presser made a lot of people pause. Team Alpha Male’s Chris Holdsworth has not fought since May of 2014, when he defeated Chico Camus by unanimous decision. The reason for his prolonged absence has been a series of concussions. It has been widely speculated that these concussions were spurred on by a surprise knee from a former training partner: UFC 217’s TJ Dillashaw. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Holdsworth confirmed these rumors, admitting, at long last, that his first concussion was caused by a cheap-shot from his estranged Team Alpha Male stablemate.
