Tom Taylor - September 13, 2018

Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz’s polarizing trilogy fight is official. Whether you’re on board with the plan, or vehemently against it, it’s happening this November 24 at The Forum in Los Angeles. That’s thanks to boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions, who will use this fight as a segue into the world of MMA. In anticipation of this event, which is sure to be a big one — whether its for the right reasons or not — Golden Boy Promotions has released an official event poster for it. This poster is most definitely a throwback, as it looks like it could just as easily be from an early-2000s UFC card.

CSAC executive explains why Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz 3 has been approved

Tom Taylor - August 31, 2018

On November 24, a 48-year-old Chuck Liddell and a 43-year-old Tito Ortiz will step into the cage for a third time. The two UFC Hall of Famers and former UFC light heavyweight champions will do so in the main event of the first MMA event put forth by boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya. Given the age of both fighters, and the fact that Chuck Liddell has not fought since 2010, the first whispers of this bout were met with immediate skepticism. Many fans and pundits argued that the fight should not even be sanctioned.

Is the MMA world really ready for a Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz trilogy?

Jordy McElroy - August 30, 2018

Oscar De La Hoya is unearthing the golden era of MMA by scheduling a trilogy fight between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz. Whether that archaeological venture leads to diamonds or dust will be heavily dependent on Golden Boy Promotions’ ability to sell a wholly unnecessary fight featuring a pair of all-time great legends in the twilight of their careers.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV this week, Oscar De La Hoya provided a bit of clarity on that front.

Brendan Schaub and four fighters that have beefed with Dana White

Jordy McElroy - July 18, 2018

Brendan Schaub drew a line in the sand with UFC President Dana White last Thursday in what might have been the most visceral social media clap-back of the year. A minor disagreement quickly escalated into all-out war between the UFC boss and former UFC heavyweight. It wasn’t the first time a former or current employee has raked White through the coals publically, and if history has taught us anything, it won’t be the last, either.

It’s happening. MMA legends and former UFC light heavyweight champions, Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell will finally have their trilogy fight. Liddell vs Ortiz is one of MMA’s all-time greatest rivalries. Dating all the way back to 2004, the bad blood still runs deep for the legends.

Joe Rogan gives his take on Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz trilogy fight: "it's the motivation that bothers me"

Tom Taylor - July 4, 2018

Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz’s trilogy fight is now allegedly official — though certain key details like the date and venue of the fight are still unknown. No matter the setting of this fight, which will be promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, it’s likely to be the subject of much controversy. Ortiz, after all, is 43, while Liddell is 48 years old. Liddell also hasn’t fought since 2010, when he retired on the heels of three-straight knockout losses.

Tito Ortiz makes prediction for Chuck Liddell rematch PPV buys

Tom Taylor - June 29, 2018

Tito Ortiz is expecting to make some serious money for his much-discussed trilogy fight with Chuck Liddell, which is likely to occur in Oscar De La Hoya’s new Golden Boy MMA promotion sometime later this year. “I think Chuck’s kind of holding out, trying to make more money out of it, which it just doesn’t make sense because this deal is pretty much a cut and dry contract,” Ortiz said of the fight on Submission Radio (transcribed Jed Meshew for MMA Fighting). “We’re both partners. De La Hoya wants his 40 percent and me and Chuck Liddell get to split 30 percent. So that’s on complete revenue of the whole fight in general. And this is the whole thing that I’ve been waiting for for such a long time in mixed martial arts, to really make a difference, and we’re gonna do that with De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.”

Speaking on Submission Radio this week, Ortiz divulged that he’s in shape, and that he’s just waiting for Liddell to sign his contract. “I’ve bounced back faster than I expected, which is great,” Ortiz said (transcribed by Jim Edwards for MMANytt). “But I feel good, man, I’m anxious. I’m just waiting on Chuck Liddell’s side to kind of sign the contract, get this done. So, it’s just a matter of time.”

Tito Ortiz explains why he wants third fight with Chuck Liddell

Tom Taylor - May 21, 2018

Earlier this month, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell announced his intention to emerge from an eight-year-retirement to make a comeback. While nothing is set in stone just yet, it sounds as though Liddell’s comeback fight will pit him against his former arch rival Tito Ortiz, probably in Oscar De La Hoya’s new MMA promotion. Liddell and Ortiz have fought twice before, with Liddell winning both contests by stoppage. That being said, Ortiz feels he never got the opportunity to show the best version of himself against Liddell in the UFC.

Scott Coker Unsure if He Could Promote Another Chuck Liddell Fight With Tito Ortiz

Justin Golightly - February 24, 2018

It seems like every year there is a tease that Chuck Liddell may come out of retirement for one or two more fights. This year, it seems to be a fight with former rival and UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz. However, Bellator president Scott Coker is on the fence about the idea. It’s not that he wouldn’t put on the trilogy between Liddell and Ortiz, he’s just that he literally doesn’t know if he can. “My understanding is that Chuck [Liddell] is still under contract with the UFC. I’m not sure. I just thought that to be true. I don’t know the details, but when he retired, I think the contract freezes and they maintain some rights. Listen, is it a fight that would be fun to watch [between Liddell and Tito Ortiz]? I think if they both pass a physical and Tito was healthy and his neck was healthy and he was able to perform at a high level, and they were fighting, to me is it interesting? I would definitely watch it.”
