Stephen Thompson Says Fans Booing Got in Tyron Woodley's Head

Tom Taylor - October 5, 2016

In June of this year, Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson extended his win-streak to seven with a decision win over recent Bellator signee Rory MacDonald. With the win, he established himself as the obvious opponent for Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley’s July welterweight title fight. When Woodley won the title with a first-round KO of Lawler, however, Thompson’s contender status began to look less certain, as the new champ expressed interest in “money fights” with Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz, and a complete disinterest in a bout with the division’s number one contender.

Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson predicts a potential Ronda Rousey vs. 'Cyborg' showdown

bjpenndotcom - September 29, 2016

For years, there have been debates and discussions about a Ronda Rousey vs. Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino super-fight. While the two women fight at different weight classes, that hasn’t curbed the enthusiasm for such a showdown between two of the best female fighters to ever step foot into the octagon. Former woman’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey hasn’t fought since a devastating knockout loss to Holly Holm back at UFC 193 in November 2015, while ‘Cyborg’ (16-1) has now won two UFC fights in a row by TKO.

Scandal! UFC Welterweight Stephen Thompson Caught in Bed with Another Man's Belt

Tom Taylor - September 20, 2016

When Stephen Thompson defeated long-time welterweight contender Rory MacDonald back in June, he seemed like a shoo-in for a shot at the winner of Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley’s looming welterweight title fight. When Woodley stole Lawler’s belt with a first-round KO, however, Thompson’s immediate future became somewhat nebulous. Right off the bat, the new champ Woodley began demanding his first defense be a “money fight” with a star like Georges St-Pierre or Nick Diaz, rather than a fight with a hard-working number-one-contender in Thompson. Indeed, there was a stretch when it looked like Thompson would be passed over the title shot, even in spite of his incredible, seven-fight win-streak.

Stephen Thompson Explains Why He Deserves the Title Shot Over Demian Maia

Tom Taylor - September 5, 2016

In the main event of UFC on Fox 21, UFC welterweight Demian Maia dazzled with a first-round submission of long-time contender Carlos Condit. The win extended the Brazilian’s streak to six, and under slightly different conditions, probably would have catapulted him directly into a title fight with welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Unfortunately for Maia, the welterweight division is also home to Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, a streaking striker with seven straight wins behind him. Unless the UFC throws us a serious curveball, Thompson will be given the next shot at Woodley, while Maia will have to wait to fight the winner of that bout.
