Sean Strickland vows to ‘drown’ Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328: ‘I’m going to smash you’

Sean Strickland is ready to pull off another massive upset to reclaim his middleweight title at UFC 328.

Strickland is set to headline UFC 328 on Saturday against Khamzat Chimaev for the middleweight title in Newark, New Jersey. Heading into the bout, Strickland is a sizable underdog, but he has full confidence in his skillset that he won’t just beat Chimaev, but will finish him to reclaim the belt.

“There’s nobody that could really beat Chimaev that could withstand his wrestling, but nothing he does is something I haven’t seen. It’s going to be a hell of a fight,” Strickland said on UFC 328 Countdown. “But I’m the only one who can do it. I’ve been training for that style of grappler for such a long time, it’s like you know what they are going to do.

“They are going to grab you, hug your legs, maybe hit a crucifix, and pin you against the cage. The UFC knows we are going to have a war, and he’s not going to sit there and dry hump my leg for 25 minutes. He’s going to wrestle me to try to prove a point that he’s a better wrestler than me.”

Although Khamzat Chimaev is known for his wrestling, Sean Strickland isn’t sure he will wrestle him.

Instead, he believes he can stuff the takedowns, and Chimaev knows that, which will lead to a kickboxing fight. With it leading to a kickboxing fight, Strickland is confident he will get a TKO win.

“But, I think a part of him knows if we do wrestle, I’ll just counter wrestle, I’ll get up, I’ll get on top. Or, complete opposite, he knows he can’t take me down, and we kick box for five rounds, and when that happens, you will see him get frustrated, throw big punches. I’m going to tag him at will. We will see who handles deep water better. You are going to drown. Fourth or fifth-round TKO for me.”

Strickland enters UFC 328 with a record of 30-7 and is coming off a TKO win over Anthony Hernandez.
